Is there anyone here who believes abortion should remain legal, but nevertheless believe women who have abortions deserve to be punished?

I mean that, if abortion was made illegal and the perpatrators punished, they would deserve what they got.

No. Women should not be punished for seeking out a legal service. Yes, abortion should remain legal.

I don't believe that was what he was asking. He was asking if there were people siding with the pro-choice side who believe abortion is morally reprehensible but think it should remain legal for other reasons.

Someone can believe "women deserve punishment" and still prefer abortion to be legal. In fact, I rather suspect that there are many Americans who feel this way. They believe that abortion is a horrible thing, but are willing to overlook it because of what they believe are the socially beneficial aspects of abortion (getting rid of the bad elements of society, a lower crime rate, population control, etc.)

No, this is what he asked: "Is there anyone here who believes abortion should remain legal, but nevertheless believe women who have abortions deserve to be punished?""

And the appropriate answer: ""Only seriously demented misogynists would want women punished for doing something legal.""

You: "Someone can believe "women deserve punishment" and still prefer abortion to be legal""

Appropriate answer: ""Only seriously demented misogynists would want women punished for doing something legal.""

It's not really a choice if you punish someone for their choice. Pro choice means pro choice. You don't have to be pro abortion, but to punish someone for their choice kind of removes the choice. I personally don't think I'd have one, but I've never been in a situation where I had to think about it so who knows what I would do. Whatever I would do, I can't tell someone else that's what they have to do, thus I'm pro choice. Punishment to me is not a pro choice component, but it will be interesting to see if others disagree.

I do not support or believe in abortion (Thus my four kids), But I also do not think MY opinion should be imposed upon another. To expect another person to live their life based on what I tell them to do is the most disgustingly egotistical thing I can imagine.

And I doubt you'd want them punished (as the OP does) because :

No, abortion is neither legally or morally wrong.

Easy to spot...first their bloodlust for controlling and punishing women. Second, the fact that they have never actually had a successful long-term relationship with a woman.

The two things naturally complimentary to each other.

A while back I read a poster that had this view. He basically said "Yeah, abortion tears up a baby in the womb and these women are horrible for doing it, BUT..." and then went on in a cold and callous manner about how it keeps the numbers down the type of people in society we don't really want. He was offhandedly pro-abortion, but it certainly wasn't because he believed women were doing the right thing.

I read about a female abortion doctor who was exasperated and angry that one of her patients was coming to get an abortion for the third time. So we can see that even the one doing the abortion can sometimes gets angry at the woman! But what are they going to do? Not perform the abortion? Then she'll just go somewhere else, and in any case it's not like the abortionist really wants to see an unwanted baby brought into the world, so the woman's choices have now put them in a difficult position. They "have to" perform the abortion. But that doesn't mean they are happy about it or not resentful against the woman.

I'd imagine that, with everything some of these abortion doctors have personally witnessed, there's a few patients they wouldn't mind seeing get a little bit of punishment.

There is a difference between believing something is morally reprehensible and believing that society should punish people for doing it. Many religious people have a belief in an all-powerful god or an impersonal force like karma that provides its own punishment for morally reprehensible behavior without society lifting a finger.

I, for one, do not consider abortion to be morally reprehensible. I consider it a mostly avoidable tragedy, but when the choice to have an abortion comes up, sometimes it is the best moral decision possible.

Absolutely. I am just saying there are people out there who believe it is both morally reprehensible and that the women deserve to be punished, but who still side with pro-choicers because they do not really want all these unwanted babies around.

Believing that people deserve something is not the same thing as advocating for society to punish them.
For example, a woman who cheats on her husband has done something very despicable, and she probably deserves something bad happening to her, but that does not mean I would support a law that criminalized infidelity.

When something DIRECTLY effects you, your life, or those you love it becomes YOUR business and you are correct to react to it. Unless these things are involved it is none of your business....OR your Gods.

As always you single out women who do bad things and need punishment but forget that men cheat, too.....I am not surprised...

On what grounds could you punish somebody for doing something that is legal, and especially if you think the actions you want to punish for should remain legal?

That's kind of like saying it should be legal to drive as fast as you want but you should be punished if you drive fast. It's like wanting to ground your kid for going out after you gave them permission to go out.

This seems to contain as much sense as an empty wallet.

If abortion was made illegal would you want women imprisoned for life or executed?

Likely both....but not until he does an extremely intricate and thorough "Examination" to assure her "Guilt"...It may take a couple days and she should be tied up to assure compliance with the highly physical aspects required. Thus the prison and the execution eliminates any possible "Complications" from arising.

Whatever the law allowed for. If it was execution, off with their heads. If it were life in prison, so be it. If it were 1,000 hours community service working with kids, then that.

Funny isn't it that you support the law when it comes to punishing females, yet do not support the law (and constitution) when it comes to protecting her rights to consent, right to defend herself and the right to equal protection..
