In the past the poor performed jobs that were necessary. This ceasing to be true.

In your dystopia the 1% become the 100%. Judging by your understanding of human nature your progeny will not make the cut.
Physician are using computer algorisms to diagnose and robots to do surgery...it will be more than the poor needing to update their curriculum vitae.

I think that reasoning should be turned around: children who are aggressive and anti social require corporal punishment and scolding to keep them from indulging in their genetic inclinations to be aggressive and anti social.

My parents were permissive. My siblings and I turned out well because we are naturally good. Bad kids need lots of punishment.

Yes, scientific evidence is useful.....unless you disagree with it.

No, they really don't. There is no such thing as a "criminal gene" since criminality is entirely dependent on free choice and individual value judgements..

Poor life choices and decadent values make bad people. Human beings are not animals who act on whim and instinct, we have the capacity to use our minds and our reason to stop being primitive.

Temperament has been shown to have a good amount of genetic input, especially in adults, so to claim criminality is entirely environmental or personal choice I think is false. I think if nothing else, having a certain disposition can make one more prone to antisocial behaviors of any kind, especially if coupled with rearing issues, acting-out behavior, anger management, morals, or whatever, culminating in a perfect storm of sorts. People are neither products of all environment or all genetics. The environmental theory of behavior was actually discredited several decades ago.

My first inclination would be to consider the home environment and perhaps intervention and counseling. To my understanding, delinquency is at least a reasonably common aspect of acting out behavior due to traumas or abuse or whatever. John Lennon had a life long wife beating issue that was tied directly to parental abandonment and neglect by his mother which resulted in childhood delinquency, petty crime, and a string of bad relationships with women which all involved violence. Who knows if Lennon had a supporting, guiding arm to lean on during those formative years how much more peaceful he may have turned out?

It's really not going to matter if they're outnumbered by lower IQ people at the ballot box.

Pish. Many personality traits are indeed genetic, but that does not contradict the fact that every individual has free will. Inhereting a "bad temperament" from your father does not mean you are deemed to a life of crime. That is just ridiculous.

One should never confuse correlation for causation.

Genetics are the least important variable when it comes to crime. It is all dependent on (i) individual character and (ii) environment (mainly childhood home). But, even if you come from a bad household, you can still avoid bad behvaiours with the proper choices and character.

I didn't say they were. I said people are a mix.

I wasn't. In fact, I linked to a study showing the similarity in personality and temperament in twins reared apart.

I don't recall seeing this in scientific literature one way or another.

I don't know what you're referring to regarding computer algorithms to diagnose. They learn physiology to understand the body systems as they're made to function and pathology to understand how and why things go wrong and what the symptoms are. Granted it's been five years since I took a course in pathophysiology, but I don't think it's changed since.

When they say they do surgery with robots, they don't mean the doctors sit and take a smoking break while the robots do the work. The "robot" is actually a set of surgical arms directly controlled by the doctor which make more precise cuts than a human hand can make. It's still the doctor controlling everything.

You are taking my comments a bit out of context. I was responding to our resident Eugenicist who was commenting that in the future the low skilled/low IQ population will be superfluous and just in the way.

Sounds like total BS to me. Delinquency depends on poverty, not race or origin.

So if a guy doesn't have a well paying job, the only option that he has is to run away from his family?

A secure above-poverty job....to develop self-esteem, as well as financial security.

Yes, definitely, there ain't no other legal way to raise a family AND teach the necessary civic values to one's kids.

So then why are there many single black mothers who don't have a job but don't run away from their kids?

Sorry, but you're just making excuses for men running away from their family. Yes, a man cannot provide financial support if he doesn't have a job, but why does that mean that he has to leave?

No, it hasn't. There is ZERO evidence that temperament is genetic. The science stops at observation of 'differences', but has literally no idea how those changes came about. Given that we know the brain is plastic, it would take a very foolish scientist - or one compromised by political correctness - to then suggest it's fixed. And a genetic origin for temperament means the brain is necessarily fixed.

The more we learn about the human condition, the more the weight of observation emphatically points to environment. The late 20thC silencing of that line of research is fundamentally anti-science. It was done as a soothing placeholder, because the numbers were too great and 'the village' (the village kept us honest) too broken to address the problem head on.

I'm only "far left" according to conventional understanding. What I am is a socialist, and we come in every flavour - from libertarian right to authoritarian left.

How has helping themselves worked out for non-whites? Why don't you ask the Chinese. Or the black skinned South Indians now dominating the American tech sector. Or the Nigerian surgeons leading ace teams in your best hospitals.

And you are Libertarian Right: the 'everyman for himself, principle.

So.... that suggests a RACIAL cause for disadvantage; what do you propose to do about it?
