Yes.. that's true, also these same poor people in SA are often quite entrepreneurial, they will think of very unique ways to earn money for food, like selling corn to daily commuters or on-selling their own electricity and water to those in the neighbourhood that does not have it

Just quickly picked out a few, obviously there are dirtier slums I wouldn't dare go near, but these were homes of miners (I was on my way to Sun City driving past) Notice how clean they are... basically they'll purchase a block of land, put a shack up and when they can afford it they replace with a home... they do not go into debt the same way we do. It was in December and hot as hell, some of the shacks had airconditioning.

 

I lived in El Paso and was able to look across the border and the first two pics are similar to what I see, they could even be on this side. I also lived in Puerto Rico for 4 years and the picture on the right would fit right in to some of the poor areas on the Caribbean side. I work in NM and sometimes head off into Indian land, talk about poor. But I have to trust my brother, he doesn't over state things and he's traveled around the country a lot, and he said SA's poor areas were quite bad. He was on a religious trip to attend a wedding for a church member and the local members (he's a Jehovah's Witness) told him not to take pictures of the poor living conditions. The one thing I see in those pics are windows. Many of the houses in Juarez that can been seen from our side of the border don't have them. It must be brutal for them, not just the heat and cold, but the intense dust storms and cloud bursts.

 

This country is too generous. Time to end the handouts. That includes Israel. That includes the UN. That includes NATO.
