    snip

City confirmed Monday the new crosswalks cost the city $196,000 to install and would last 10 years. But the price sparked debate among taxpayers who were surprised by the cost...........

    end snip

I'm curious, why does a city think that painting a sidewalk to support a specific sexual lifestyle is a wise use of taxpayer dollars? Is Atlanta in such good shape that they ahve cash to burn?

Why not paint the Star of David or a cross? Why not a rifle to celebrate hunters?

Why is the gay lifestyle deserving of this expense yet many other lifestyles are not?

I'm going to guess that anyone who dares balk at this will immediately be labeled a homophobe.

The whole "rainbow" thing is getting ridiculous. If someone wants to be gay, just be gay, don't expect crosswalks painted to celebrate your sexual preferences. You keep throwing it in people's faces and then when someone voices opposition, you're ready to scream, protest, and label them as hateful.

My guess is that the actual added cost was significantly less. If they spent $150K in labor for instance, that would be added in, but it isn't like the road crews wouldn't have been working but for painting these crosswalks. They would have been off painting something else.

How in the eff did that cost $196,000? There's something off here. Way off.

I feel the same way about religion. Yet it is thrown in my face regularly, I am made to pay for it regularly, and if I don't say "merry christmas" people are ready to 'scream, protest, and label me as hateful'.

    There is a bidding process.
    Bid 1: Company A, $650,000.00 -$325K labor + $325K materials
Bid 2. Mayors cousin will do it for $196,000.00. $650 goes to company A and they split the rest!

Notice how many government workers it takes to paint a line!

How it this a sign of unity, as per the article, when it only point to, represents, applies to, is meaningful to, is only cared about by gays.

And I'm sure the local Islamists are overjoyed.

But they aren't allowed to paint something religious on the crosswalk due to separation of church and state. The homesexual colors though are allowed and tax dollars to fund them.

Btw: I'm agnostic, and I have never had religion thrown in my face. You say you have?

I have no problem with rainbow sidewalks, but at that price, how the hell could it have cost that much?

    Gov't project.

Now wonder we're all taxed to death and it's still not enough.

That pretty well sums it up. Even a rainbow crosswalk with a four man crew shouldn't run over five grand on the high side. Graft is afoot.

How did this cost so much? You could have achieved the same result with a few gallons of cheap Lowe's paint.

All i can think about is dressing up like a leprechaun and standing over a pot of gold at the street corner.

Rainbow crosswalks are becoming a "thing" in these cities then. If we listened to the left, you'd think half the country is gay.

Well, if it causes as much right-wing rage at I think it will, I say yes. Definitely worth it.

Besides, they went through a process where 20k people signed petitions and the mayor agreed. If the people don't like it, they can vote the city council and mayor out. It's not like we quite live in a dictatorship yet.

If one takes a 'whiz' on it would that be considered a hate crime?

Painting a star of david or a cross would violate the separation of religion and state. If they want to paint a rifle, then by all means they should be able to do that; maybe there is not enough interest by rifle owners in painting a rifle on the sidewalks.
