So I read they now have over 1.5 million votes and expect to have 1.6 million by next week. They only need 1.5 million votes but want and should get 2 million votes by the march deadline in case votes are not accepted. The Republican party is now tossing money into the recall effort after polls show Newsom losing popularity and Joe Biden is of course saying Newsom should not be recalled as Democrats come to his aid with a election vote likely this year.

My question is this. California is a liberal state. Sure Arnold was a Republican govenor but he was very popular. I think this is a waste of time now. To many Democrats in California that vote party over policy.

What are the chances of a Republican winning a govenor race in California? Is it even possible anymore?

Newsom would probably end up being re-elected. Even if a third of the state dislikes him, that still gives him a comfortable majority. Sure a republican could win California. Arnold won there for years until he was term limited. I am just not sure a real conservative could though.

I hope the effort to recall is successful.

Many/most politicians are arrogant clowns, but Newsome seems especially venal.

California hasn't had a Republican governor since Pete Wilson in the late 90s. Arnold was elected as a Republican but immediately transformed into a liberal and became a RINO.

I did not know governors have term limits. Maybe that's just California? I just don't see Democrats voting in a Republican.

Newsom refuses to utter the words recall but he is doing campaign appearances so he knows it's happening.

California has imposed a two term limit on governor since sometime in the 90's. Virginia has never allowed a governor to serve two consecutive terms since its founding, though you technically can serve an unlimited number of terms as long as you sit out a term between each election. Most states have some version of term limits on the governor, though not all do.

anything is possible. I know many Republicans that say they would have voted for Tulsi Gabbard. I get that its almost always about party, but not ALWAYS.

Tulsi became popular among Republicans and hated among Democrats.

I suspect there are some potential Dem candidates waiting in the wings, but reluctant to make a move until the recall is certain. There are a could of GOPers who have declared but their statewide recognition is pretty thin so far.

The recall now has about 1.8 million votes. It does look like Newsom will face the fire of a recall.

A former mayor has called out Newsom for "behest payments" resulting in over 200 million in donations.

Let the drama in California begin. Will Democrats be united or devided?

I think all Republicans need to leave that state. Stop trying to win it back; it's not coming. If Nancy Pelosi can survive the hypocrisy of not wearing a mask to get her hair done, Newsom has his scandal of hypocrisy in the bag. He will remain governor. Mark my words. Republicans need to move out of the state, depriving California of their taxes, and they need to move to the purple areas of this country, where we can sway elections. Let California be a communist hellhole; that's how the voters vote there anyway; let them suffer by their own choices.

Just because he said so that doesn't make it a fact.

Course if you consider anyone who doesn't worship trump a RINO, then he would be correct. Arnold sees trump for the scum he is.

If Democrats wanted better policies they would have voted for Trump.

Since 1940, only 4 Democrats have won the CA Governorship. Of course a Republican can win the CA governorship. Richard Grenell may throw his hat in the ring and he would be a formidable candidate.

Newsom has quite the laundry list of not good stuff:
Rank and File Democrats are not really happy the crazy faces being painted all over by their insane "leaders". And this "everything is racist" nonsense is getting harder and harder for sane folks to defend.
He did, but I thought he also backed off when they pushed back, where Grandma Killer Cuomo doubled down and threatened their licenses.

    >>New York and New Jersey both have ordered nursing homes to admit patients regardless of their COVID-19 status. California had a similar directive. And then suddenly, as of March 30, it didn't. After a couple of days of outcry from the medical community, the state softened its instruction.

It now says that a nursing home "can be expected" to receive residents who test positive for the virus if it is able to follow the infection control guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<<

I think we could see him recalled. The Dems will pull all the dirty tricks, Democrats signing up in the wrong county knowing that their signatures will be disallowed. What is also bound to be noticed is how hard Democrats will verify signatures when a Democrat is being recalled, compared to all their arguments AGAINST signature verification during elections.
Newsome still has a positive polling number.

But, stories like this do no help him.

40% of California’s inmates have been vaccinated for COVID-19, meanwhile the vaccination rate for law-abiding Californians is just 6.5%.

Clearly, their priority is not the hard working middle class.

March 17th is the deadline. About 1.8 million votes collected so far. 1 million turned in and 84% of those have passed. The recall needs about 1.5 million valid signatures and I'm sure they have that already. They just have to get them sent in to be validated.

The last recall was in 2003 and 135 people were on the ballot. This recall election looks to take place about Thanksgiving with Gavin Newsom already in campaign mode over the last 2 week's.

Newsom has only himself to blame for screwing up.

I don't think he will be removed, but I signed the recall petition because of his abuse of power, imposing gun laws and higher taxes.

The last recall had 135 people on the ballot so if we see a repeat that could devide the voters.
