I made this rice pudding recipe - https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/rice_pudding_85172 It works! The only alteration I made was, I added some grated nutmeg with the milk too, plus I reduced the quantity of milk by the amount of cream. I often buy the two pots of Rice pudding from Morrisons, and this recipe gives the exact same version.
This one works - You will never beat a nann bread from a takeaway, but these are better than a supermarket's. When we make them again, we're going to make them slightly sweeter and go for the ghee option at the end.
We bought a single waffle machine thing from The Range £15 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/waffles_82356 This recipe works. Rather than make 20, we did 1 egg, so we took 1/3rd of the ingredients. Shop waffles are overly sweet, this recipe isn't, in fact, a little extra sugar wouldn't go amiss. But having said that, if you're slurping a blob of golden syrup, maple syrup, caramel sauce etc.. on, the sweetness in that makes these waffles ideal. We spied waffle recipes with a blob of butter in them, we'll try that idea one day. We were expecting about 3 mins cooking time, when you need over 10mins, but it was just £15.
Huge fan of naan but it is kind of pricey for no more than it is. I use it as the crust to make homemade pizza
I make homemade pizza too. And it means you can use all sorts of weird unusual toppings. Blueberry pizza anyone? Had it yesterday. It's pretty good! My favourite simple thing to do that I rarely see elsewhere is melting cheese into rice when using the rice cooker.
This one worked - We don't do heat, so we tried 2 medium green chillies. Next time, gonna try 6. Also, we did the meat off 5 chicken thighs, but because we had a bhaji instead of a rice etc.. we needed more chicken. So for 2 people, 600g of meat in this recipe is bang on.
Mostly German and Irish. My wife introduced me to sauerkraut pizza. Her family is mostly German as well. I’m not sure where they picked it up. There is a large community about 75 miles away from where her family homesteaded where 75% of family names end in “ski”.
Mac & Cheese with peas, tuna fish and condensed cream of mushroom soup - stovetop casserole. Cook peas with mushroom soup together is separate saucepan. When the macaroni is cooked to the point it’s just starting to soften - drain of water, add milk and the cheese mix, add the tuna fish, mix, then add the mushroom soup with peas, mix while bringing to simmer or till the the noodles are soft but not overcooked…. enjoy! Feeds a small army.
Hard to please crowd here? I mean no ‘thanks’ or ‘likes’ for that recipe I found on the box of Kraft Mac & Cheese….. /rant For simpletons…. a Clif Energy Bar is good. I recommend Oatmeal Raisin Walnut. Straight-up, with a milk chaser.
I hate Mac & Cheese, peas, and Tuna individually but I'll eat cream of mushroom a lot in winter. I actually think the campbell's cream of mushroom tastes about as close to truffles without actually having a truffle that you can get. I also like the golden mushroom to cook with. I also hate raisins so yes I am in the hard to please crowd I guess I was in a curry everything phase. Now I am in a everything teriyaki phase
I never liked teriyaki. I’m a huge beef jerky fan, but teriyaki…. I’d toss it under busses for the crows to eat before I’d buy it.
One of my first jobs as a chef was in the Waffle House in Norwich. Run by South Africans with two restaurants, one in Norwich and one in St Albans. Nothing to do with the fast food chain of the same name. This place made everything from scratch right down to the mayonnaise. What made their waffles so good was yeast in the batter. This means you have to allow time for the batter to prove but the end result is much lighter and crispier than using chemical raising agents like baking powder. This was nearly 40 years ago so I don't remember the exact recipe but there are recipes for ''genuine Belgian waffles'' out there. My favourite were the savoury waffles. Particularly a cheese flavoured waffle with avocado, spring onion, boiled egg and mayonnaise. https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/belgian-style-yeast-waffles-recipe
Out of a tin I agree but made yourself with a good quality mature cheddar and baked in an oven with a golden breadcrumb topping...yum.
It’s the green veggies and the protein of tuna fish…. the mushrooms are the icing on the cake… of the recipe I posted. But a big Hallelujah for real cheese.
Going to go Swedish and try making Tunnbrödsrulle over the coming week - https://swedesinthestates.com/recipe-tunnbrodsrulle-by-a-swede-in-the-kitchen/amp/ Her in doors doesn't like the shrimp salad, I do, so I'll try it in mine. Sounds a weird combination of food.
The amount of butter and cream in that recipe and my arteries panicked! Though I have to say there is nothing like.a good rice pud. Going to make a “cold Christmas pudding” this year. (It is hot as hell at Christmas)
I made my Christmas puddings last week. They are due another slug of brandy on them. I'm aiming for just the right amount for them to be classed as a fire hazard.
Well, I made the Tunnbrödsrulle but just with the flat bread, mash, hot dogs, lettuce, ketchup, and prawn salad. It was flat. Next time, dried onions, black pepper, and steak rub going in. I was actually thinking it was going to be puke, but it was all just plain.
