If you are interested in the origin of the CIA, then The Quiet Canadian by H.Montgomery Hyde (an autobiography of Sir William Stephenson and his relationship with William Donovan) is worth a read.

Do you want fiction? Nonfiction? Any subjects that interest you particularly? All my readings as of late have been non-fiction about the Middle East or post-modernist theory. So if you want fiction, I will have to dig deeper into my mind.

This book was released at the beginning of the month, I doubt you've had time to read it yet --

    imagedaboo_5908205_4691686.jpg

This is volume four of Robert Caro's five volume set about Lyndon Johnson. I've literally been waiting thirty years for this volume!

Volume one was entitled "The Path to Power", and was published in 1982. Volume two was "Means of Ascent", and published in 1990. Volume three was entitled "The Master of the Senate", and published in 2002. This newest book covers the period from 1958 to 1964 and chronicles Johnson's decision to leave the Senate and accept the Vice-Presidency, his tenure as Vice-President, and his assumption of the Presidency on that tragic day in Dallas.

Caro is supposed to be writing a fifth volume about LBJ, possibly a sixth. At the rate he is going, I'll have to have Barnes & Noble send it to me in the great hereafter! :)

That sounds pretty good. I have read a couple volumes on the FBI but none on the CIA.

    You Pass, and thank you.

I will read pretty much anything that doesn't haven't a half naked dude on the cover.

You see, thats the thing, I don't know. I sort of have a cycle I go through. It normally goes along fiction-thriller fiction-randon fiction -mysterty non-fiction -economic related, fiction-economic related (anything related to modern economic theory, in other words) non fiction-random.

In theory I should be on mystery but I might change it up.

I dislike Johnson a lot, but as long as the volumes are fair that could be good.

    You Pass.

    I will google him shortly.

    Verdict--waiting

I love McCarthy! That is an excellent suggestion.

    You pass.

Understanding Power - Noam Chomsky (collection of talks full of absolute gems and a decent overview of the way things work)

Reconciliation - Benazir Bhutto (This is a very important book IMO, for so many reasons.)

Having read extensively for an entire decade { the 80's } and then a lot of
*Periodicals and Bio's in the 90's.I pretty much gave up on reading novels 10 years
go.Since I began my Internet " Id " Career.I concentrated on my own writing
posture.Yes,writers have postures. Not just their style but the way they broach
a topic and exuberate/deflate any given narrative.

I honestly believe the best Book I have read in the last few years was Gary Crosby's :
    - Going My Own Way - ,a real life Bio of Gary Crosby,
eldest son of legendary Bing Crosby. It was more than just fascinating but also made
my own life more important.Because as any son knows, the relationship they have with
their Father can sometimes determine their life.Gary tells his side of the Crosby household
with simple honesty and genuine heart.I dare say ,no one could read that book and ever again
see a Bing Crosby Road Movie in the same light.Never again listen to a Bing Crosby popular
tune the same way.The book had that effect.I believe what Gary wrote. He waited so as not
to hurt his Father.Like the way his Father had done him and also his siblings.Gary had 3
brothers,2 of which ended up committing Suicide,by gunshot.

    * Having gotten a great deal on - The New Yorker - but still enjoyed - Vanity Fair -\
where guys Like Dominick Dunne never ceased to amaze me with their straightforward
    and often brutal character analysis.

:toast: well , Sir T , I know what I like to read , but how about you ?

I have not found any contemporary writters that I can get comfortable with , todays literary offerings mostly offend me.

I'm into reading antique books , currently , I'm reading a book by James Street GoodBye , My Lady circa 1941.

It's a wonderful read , .. but there are many others to choose from .

I have always enjoyed Watchers at the Pond by Franklin Russell .

ok , read those two and either Ban me or get back to me for more A+ reading . :p
