We have a harlequin dane that sheds sooooo much. I've never seen a dog shed so much. If you drop an article of clothing (or anything) on the floor and pick it up, it will be covered in white hairs....and we sweep twice a day!! I have to use a lint roller before I sit down on my own furniture. I've read omega3 helps and also read about a product called ''shedx''. However I like to talk to real live people who have tried products. I know many will say a good quality expensive food, but we've tried that route so suggest what has worked for you besides diet. Thanks!

To be honest I would love to find him another home, but my family would put ME in the dog house if I did that.

    lol

I have heard the changing diet thing alluded to before, but I really don't know a solution.

I do however, wish you good luck.

I was only teasing previously. ;)

Buy one of those really expensive brushes made to control just that. They cost between $50-$70, but they work. Brush the dog daily.

Having owned 2 beautifull Husky you will just have to learn to
live with it.With Husky theres a way of blowing their coat after winter
so they don't shed clumps. But clumps are easier to manage
and Female huskies don't shed nearly as much as male husky.
Maybe diet will help some and also daily grooming.
Dogs go by breed as far as shedding. Some more than others.

Get a good metal comb and give the dog a good, long, brush at least twice a day.

I don't care what any 'expert' tells you. A dog is gonna shed. What i'm more unhappy about is that you want to get rid of the dog. well, that wouldn't be the right thing to do. So often people get caught up in the status of owning a particular dog and they really aren't ready for what dog ownership means. I'm glad that you feel an obligation to your family but it would be better if you felt an obligation to the pup. Please try to make the very best of this. Putting the dog outside is cruel in my opinion and is no way to connect with the dog so that you both feel that dog is part of the family and belongs. If you put some effort into this human/companion relationship i can promise you that it will be very fulfilling for you and the dog.

If you get the good brush/comb and brush the dog every day, most of the fur will stay off your furniture and rugs.

    Inhale....exhale.....repeat.

We are not virgin dog owners, or ''status'' owners. The dog mentioned we've had him for 5 yrs and, our female for 7, so you aren't responding to some chick on craigslist who buys and rehomes dogs every 6 mo to a yr...AND there is another reason I would be ok with finding him a new home, but I will stick to the topic which is shedding. Yes, I KNOW dogs shed, I am inquiring about things other posters have done to help with ''EXCESSIVE'' shedding. I have read rave reviews about shedx and think I will make a trip this weekend to petsmart to see if they have it.

To the other posters that provided constructive input thanks. We bought the furminator brush/comb yrs ago, and it didn't seem to do much, admittedly we probably only brushed 5 times a week vs 7, but I doubt the two missed days would be that much of a difference. I guess when you don't see results you give up....however since its been awhile, I'll get militant with doing it daily.
