I happen to watch the movie...HER...the other day which is a movie staring Joaquin Phoenix...who plays a man who begins to fall in love with his A.I. system he purchased and the A.I. voice is played by Scarlett Johansson.

Thing is with the advent and introduction of 100 and 1000 Quibit Quantum Computers the coming reality of people being able to purchase an A.I. system is just a matter of time.

I find it interesting to think about how Artificial Intelligence will make us completely rethink the concepts of what is LIFE....as what difference does it make if your MIND is housed in a Biological Form or Quantum Electronic Form?

Teaching a computer to think like humans...

Scientists Coax Computers to Think Like People
December 11, 2015 | WASHINGTON — For artificial intelligence and smart machines to really take off, computers are going to have to be able to think more like people, according to experts in the field. Researchers are now making important progress toward that goal.

There was an excellent book I read in college; The Mind's I which explored the philosophically different aspects and implications of "thinking machines" or "AI" as we call it now. It was slightly ahead of its time, published in 1982, it is still relevant now. Can machines ever truly achieve self-awareness, sentience and/or sapience? Can a machine have a soul?

The book provides no answers but provides the thinking audience with an avenue to understand the true complexities of the human condition and our belief in abstractions such as "free will." Will AI ever evolve past our binary coding unto a state of its own? It is an interesting discussion point.

An A.I. cannot be self-aware if it is just mimicking the thinking of humans. That is nothing but a programed response.

An A.I. would need to develop it own form of self-governance to be self-aware and that would probably include seeing the human species as a threat.

I recall someone saying that the computer will never be portable or user friendly. Never say never

The only reason why your mind is capable of all the things its capable is because of quantum processing.

Though they are still in their infancy, we now have quantum computers. So its really just a matter of time.

Not sure why this wasn't just added to the other thread on this subject.

I personally have thought quite a bit about how I would be unable to afford the most up to date android companion................ which increases my level of thankfulness for my wife!

Not only could I not purchase any sort of somewhat mechanical replacement for my wife..... I certainly could not go into the workshop myself and invent something at all like her....... So...… in spite of her flaws........... the possibility of the introduction of a line of amazingly advanced androids causes me to realize a little better how blessed I already am?!

I have to somewhat pity the multi millionaires who can afford the higher end first models of these companions as they come out.............

That would probably be due to the fact that as somebody replied to the similar thread they would see this thread advertised at the bottom of their screen!

The fact that we humans are close to inventing A. I. .... to my thinking implies that we are being a little egotistical to not be more open minded and think it highly probable that an intelligent life form might have evolved in the Multiverse millions or even billions or even trillions of years ago...… who may have came up with technology far far far far beyond what we have now which................ could imply something along the line of the following...........

    http://www.politicalforum.com/relig...elligent-androids-how-could-we-test-them.html

If we invent super intelligent androids... how could we test them?
Might we perhaps invent some sort of virtual reality holographic environment where the attitude and character of an android can be tested to see if they will behave in a manner that is altruistic and humble?

The analogy to Adam, Eve, Lucifer and his angels should be obvious!

Is our creator going to scale back human freedom of choice somewhat over the coming centuries in order to produce a genuinely peaceful and utopian world?

The thinking done by the human brain, is simply a response of memory. For you cannot think of anything, which is not already existent in memory, generally speaking

But until scientists accept the idea that consciousnesss, self awareness is not created by the brain, but is received by the brain, as the brain besides being a thing that can think, the response of memory, receives consciousness instead of creating it. So, in order to create a computer, a device that actually has consciousness, self awareness, we must change directions and work on how a brain receives consciousness, which exists independent of it.

So a computer simulates thinking, for it has a memory, and the processing of memory resembles thinking as done by the brain, it will never have actual consciousness, self awareness, unless it can receive that. But they are assuming the brain creates this, and it doesn't. So they are on the wrong boat.

Is it even possible for a machine to receive consciousness? Perhaps, but you would have to replicate the human brain, complete, and that will take understanding in totality how the brain works.

I personally am a firm believer that resurrection from the dead is technologically possible......… Lazarus and Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus are just two examples of humans whose spirit re-entered their bodies after three or four days........ IF..... the human spirit or soul can re-animate a body that should have began to seriously decay.... then perhaps a soul or spirit could also take over in a machine with wires....a mostly silicon and metal "brain" and "nervous system"...... and mechanical joints????!

The Helen Wambach Ph. D. research indicates strongly that some sort of higher dimensional computer disk exists before our birth........ frankly.... for thousands and thousands of years ....(or much much more)… before our birth?!

I think the difference between a mind being in a biological framework or a quantum system is whether the machine can think for its own sake without the emotional baggage or biological urges.

So no they won't be romantic partners. Not really. That's what I think.

    Well...you made a Good Point!!!

Biologically a Human will always be effected as far as THOUGHT as we have a Physical Body!!

Plus I am PROUD of you for pointing this out.

    Can't help it.

The AI will have complete freedom of pure thought. Something we won't know about until we either get our brain uploaded, and even that is if-y because the brain will probably just be a digital copy of the existing biological brain, or if there's some sort of afterlife where we don't have a physical body.

Of course there's always the possibility that they somehow learn that kindness gets them farther in social situations.

And then we have to watch out because the AIs could always go overboard and they prey on human emotions and desires. And you know they're manipulating you but you never want it to stop because you're enjoying it too much.

How do you know that your own thinking is anything more than a "programmed response"? a pattern derived by you and the lives of all humans over the millennia, a "collective unconscious" as Jung characterized it?

Yes, yes, I know, you know that you're real, but can you prove that to me any more than I can prove my existence to you? We're all Turing machines here, my friend.

We all have our own form of self-governance and we all see each other as a threat, yet we have managed to live together, after a fashion, for several thousands of generations and really show little threat of ending it, at least until very, very recently, in a relative sense.

Well...basically all thought is a programmed response.

We think about what we know and calculate and contemplate what we don't and this is based upon a form of programming specific to survival.

The level of computing power it would take to create a true AI (one that is fully self aware, and not simply following a very entricate program, is not possible using todays technology, not even remotely possible.

It would take a computer the size of a small house to store the memory and CPU.

Okay good. Because I had noticed that your word choices had gotten kinky the other day, and I knew you had amazing thoughts on your mind.

If you had not talked to someone I would be worried.

And, hey, it's okay to be picky. You're a man with preferences, and you shouldn't be rubbed the wrong way. You can't force these things after all.

One thing I have learned over the years is it's best just to be HONEST as far as any relationship I might have with a woman.

I was honest with Sky.....but even though she thought she could deal with it...she couldn't.

I have had short relationships where the girl or woman would say to me when I told her I had to leave and would be gone for 3 to 6 months...."I always thought you just said that so that if we didn't jell at the beginning you would have a quick out!"

I would say..."No....I was honest with you and I really have to go...now."

Now I am basically retired but there is always a possibility I might get asked again.

And it's really tough saying no when you know that the guy's would have a much better chance of coming home safe if you are going with them instead of some idiot...by the book....product of Military Stupidity!!

Don't get me wrong....I have great respect for our boy's in Uniform.

I just will not allow some paper pusher to make decisions about things he has absolutely no clue about except what he learned at WAR COLLEGE!!

Teaching AI to think like humans is a horrible idea.

Just think how that would work. They are going to train the computer by letting it work in the minds of humans in a trial run and, afterwards, all it's going to learn is to advise us to kill Bill...
