It was one of the many lies making the rounds when Repubs became apoplectic over healthcare reform. It took the form of the catchy phrase, "death panels." The dystopian idea of a panel of dispassionate bureaucrats deciding grandma's fate.

Well, congratulations to the unvaccinated. You have caused the falsely accused right wing nightmare scenario under the ACA to become a reality during the era of COVID.

‘The situation is dire’: Idaho activates crisis standards statewide over COVID-19

In the latest blow in the state’s battle with COVID-19, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare announced Thursday that it has activated crisis standards of care for the entire state.

The request to expand crisis standards beyond North Idaho was made by St. Luke’s Health System. St. Luke’s has major hospitals in Boise and Meridian.

Crisis standards of care were created in June 2020 as a plan to strategically ration health care if hospitals become overwhelmed with the demands in front of them. When crisis standards are implemented, hospital beds may not be available to someone who needs it, or beds could be in repurposed rooms not typically used for medical treatment.

    And not just in Idaho.

Covid-19: Alaska Rations Care as Delta Ravages the State

Alaska’s largest hospital announced Tuesday that a relentless coronavirus outbreak driven by the highly contagious Delta virus variant has left emergency room patients waiting hours in their vehicles and forced medical teams to ration care.

At Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, the hospital said it was now operating under “crisis standards of care” — procedures put in place to prioritize resources in a way that may leave some patients with substandard care.

Alaska, where 60 percent of adults are fully vaccinated, is just one state among many where the Delta variant has run rampant, straining hospitals to their breaking points. Last week, Idaho announced that medical centers in the northern part of its state would move to crisis standards of care. In Alabama, all I.C.U. beds are occupied, as hospitals in Southern states run dangerously low on space in intensive care units.

I’m not sure what kind of BS you’re peddling but I know for a fact all ICU beds in Alabama aren’t full. My cousin just had a triple bypass in Alabama and was in icu for three days due to complications. We visited him last week and there were multiples of ICU beds open.

So someone dies from COVID and you're celebrating it? That's pretty disgusting.

I didn't think the point was that complicated but if somehow you missed it it's unvaccinated people are severely stressing the healthcare system in areas of the country where vaccination rates are low. I hope that helps.

In Alabama, all I.C.U. beds are currently occupied. In recent days, dozens of patients in the state have needed beds that were not available, according to data published by the Department of Health and Human Services.

“It means they’re in the waiting room, some are in the back of ambulances, things of that nature,” said Jeannie Gaines, a spokesperson for the Alabama Hospital Association.

Then she’s lying. I saw them with my own eyes. I’m not going to believe someone who is contradicting what I witnessed personally. Now you can believe her. That’s fine. But I know for a FACT it’s not true.

One whistleblower is calling out their own hospital as lying. The hospital overstates the Covid patients in the ICU by 100% and the ICU beds were full only because the hospital shut down 3 of their 4 ICU floors due to lack of patients.

The OP is simply more fear porn for the gullible.

Saying....In Alabama, all I.C.U. beds are currently occupied.......means just that. Apparently your cousin was one of them. Having all the ICU beds occupied is an abnormal situation caused by a large number of COVID patients. Got it?

Totally false. Many hospitals are normally at near capacity before Covid. Also many there are there for other reasons and incidentally test positive but are not there for Covid treatment. Another nurse says that some in ICU for Covid aren’t even sick but the hospital is requiring them to stay. Filled beds means $$$.

@Lee Atwater Does it make sense that democrats are blocking a requirement that illegals get vaccinated?

Health and Welfare said the following in its Thursday news release: “In other words, someone who is otherwise healthy and would recover more rapidly may get treated or have access to a ventilator before someone who is not likely to recover.”

“The situation is dire — we don’t have enough resources to adequately treat the patients in our hospitals, whether you are there for COVID-19 or a heart attack or because of a car accident,” IDHW Director Dave Jeppesen said in a news release Thursday.

Hopefully, you don't have any hospitalized cousins in Idaho.

Yes. Equating freedom with making the decision to put your own life, and those you come in contact with, in jeopardy is delusional.

I've long since lost my ability to be shocked by vapid ignorance of the data proving otherwise. Data that, for example, shows the strong correlation between being hospitalized with COVID and not being vaccinated.

Medical care is not being rationed because the vaccine doesn't work. It's because not enough people have been vaccinated.

Yes, because your anecdotal story is better than actual facts...

There are 1,541 staffed ICU beds in Alabama. The state has 1,661 ICU patients.

I'm talking about the ability to get the virus. Your logic implies the vaccines don't work. If you're vaccinated, you're protected, right? Don't move the goalposts on me here, lol.

Did you ask anyone if they had staff for those beds?

An empty bed is just wasted space if there is no nurse for that bed. An ICU nurse is limited by law as to how many patients they can have assigned.

How is LeeA peddling anything? He didn't write the linked articles? He just posted them and commented on them.

And, why are people so unwilling to accept the fact that their personal experience is not necessarily an indicator or ALL experiences? Did you go to every hospital in Alabama? I'm going to assume you didn't so you can't speak for what the overall hospital situation is in the entire state.
