My son phoned me and told me a plane just crashed into one of the Twin Towers in N.Y. and so I turned on the Television and they were showing video of the crash. At the time I thought I guess the early bird employees are in a hell of a fix and I hope most can get out to the stairwells and work their way down. Then as your watching you see a second plane flying and I remember saying to my wife " It's going to fly into that other building. This ain't no accident were being attacked". Then came the Pentagon and Shanksville Pa. My emotions that day ranged the whole spectrum from sadness, disbelieve, fear and ended with anger.

Even today as I re-watched the events today I had those same emotions. I still find myself looking at Muslims with suspicious feelings. Where were you and what thoughts today?

Ya, I'm still suspicious of Saudis....how they flew planes into out country's buildings and how the Saudis who were close personal friends of the Bush's got to immediately fly out of the country when no one else could fly at all...

I was a 20 year old EMT and college student.

Girlfriend woke me up and said "we are at war".

Got to a television set just in time to see one of the buildings collapse. What really got me was news interviewing a medic on scene talking about the jumpers just prior to the collapse.

Went to school and my work pager went off calling me in.

We were sent in ambulances to the LAX tarmac to stage for the expected attacks on LA. There was no air traffic. We watched a little portable black and white television for news coverage.

I called my dad in northern Virginia and he could see the smoke from the pentagon.

I remember muslims celebrating and passing out candy.

    Not gonna forget that.

I remember Clinton getting a ride but don't remember the close personal friends you speak of?

Either way, back on topic, 9/11 doesn't need to be politicized, people on all sides, all colors, and all religions died that day. At the time, I had a corner office in Memphis on the 5th floor of a medium rise building and when that second plane hit we evacuated that office. I watched the news for 48 hours straight it seems, I've never been more proud of my countries response at the time. The politics went away and we were all Americans again, that was nice. That morning was the only day in my life that I was truly scared for my country and my friends across the country. I had no real clue how bad radical Islamic terrorism had become, it opened my eyes in a big way. The though that there is a radical arm of a religion that hates our way of life so much that they'll kill anyone to damage it still blows my mind. They hate gender and racial equity so much that life has zero value and it still sends chills down my spine. Anyway, the dismay of that morning has forever changed my view of the world and it's politics. I still remember watching policemen running to the towers while everyone was running away. I can't imagine how some have turned on them a decade later. I remember the empty feeling when the towers actually went down, they didn't mean anything to me the day before but on 9/11 it was a symbol of our country. I remember Bush's speech on the rubble and the pride I felt at that moment. All very surreal moments to this day.

I was 13, near the end of my math & science class in middle school when the announcements came on, and everyone was told to turn on their televisions because a plane hit the WTC. Sure enough, as soon as the TV was on, there was one of the towers smoking. This went on in to my second period class and it was on all day, I don't remember anyone doing any work because we're just watching the WTC burn and then they mentioned the Pentagon being hit. Then we saw the 2nd tower collapse, the room got silent and then all county public schools were given an early dismissal. I was quietly terrified because I felt the school was next on the list of places to be hit (it obviously wasn't) and I just went home pretty shaken and uncomfortable.

I was at work, on a conference call, and there were people running outside of my office carrying on. I was pissed because I could hear them and my prospective customer could also hear them. When my call was over I opened my door prepared to scream at them and they were all crying in the lunchroom around the TV.

I grew up not far from NYC. I remember watching them build the Towers, which I was able to see from my bedroom window. I worked briefly in Sumitomo Bank in the early 1990s in one of the Towers. I lost a few friends and also some college acquaintances that day.

It was without question the darkest day in this country's history. I watched some of the shows over the weekend reliving the horror, and it still hits me hard.

Nope, I'm not going to debate ancient rehashed overhashed history....the people who flew planes into the buildings were Saudis, Bush's close personal Saudi friends were allowed to fly home. ..

All I can see is Snopes saying that there is no truth to this, and the 9/11 commission confirmed there is no truth to it.

It was a day that confirmed how well diversity and multiculturalism work in the West. I don't know how the US got by so long without the sharing of this unique religious culture.

I ignored the first news, not knowing what size plane was involved. A B-25 bomber had once struck the Empire State bldg, so I didn't think much of it.

When the 1st tower fell, I phoned Mrs. E and headed to the co cafeteria where the news was playing on TV. I saw tower 2 fall.

    :(

I was on a bus going to college at 18 years of age. Someone said what happened but the full impact of the situation didn't hit me until I got to school and EVERYONE was packed into the common area watching CNN.

The reverberations of that single event are still felt today.

RIP to those who died during the attack, and during the Iraq war that followed.

I was in bed. My old man came running into my room screaming "they blew up the world trade center, they blew up the world trade center!"

We hopped in a car, streets dead as a damn boneyard. Hit dunkin - they didn't even charge us for coffee - the girl just sort of looked at my dad like he was crazy. Hit 78 - no traffic, nothing - the only time I've ever seen a 2-3 lane fast track into NYC completely empty of people. Made it to the gold coast in record time. I can still smell the smoke.

I didn't see the towers collapse live - saw that on television before we hit the road - but I'll never forget that smell. Acrid, acidic.

Years later and I still believe it was an inside job.

I was online when my son typed OMG! OMG! OMG!

I said, "What?", knowing that WTC was already hit. He said, "They just crashed into the Pentagon!" I turned in my chair to look out my office window to see the smoke billowing in the sky from the Pentagon. We finally got out of DC almost 4 hours later driving down the expressway next to the Pentagon. To see the plane, the smoke, the horror while driving down a highway that was totally empty of other cars. No words can describe it for me.

A day that cost so many American lives and changed so many others!

Horrific acts of violence that united us for a moment. Where is that America?

It does seem interesting that there hasn't been any more attacks similar in scale since then.

Strange indeed. It's almost as if the current **** is the true capacity of these terrorists, and they had some sort of help to engineer the absurd feats required to pull off the 9/11 attacks.

My wife called and said "Turn on the TV." After a few seconds the second plane hit. I thought at first it was a replay. Within 30 minutes she had to get off the phone. The FBI needed to question her. She is an airline pilot. She flew three of them to the Boston connection, where she was now grounded. We lost friends, crew on the aircraft. I remember the silence. Living near an airport that is something that never happens. Awful, awful silence.

That was my reaction after the second plane hit the WTC - we were going to war.

In addition to my sadness for the victims and my anger at the people who killed them I was also pissed off because the Cold War had just ended and I thought we were looking forward to a better, more peaceful era but that dream was instantly shattered 16 years ago today.

My thoughts are with those who died in New York and here in Virginia on 9/11, the heroes on Flight 93 and the men and women who have been killed and wounded fighting our Islamist enemies around the globe...
