Today is a great day for ALL Americans to reflect on what this day means to them. Let us all look at our own family history, those veterans we have met along the way and the service and sacrifices of those we don’t even know.

I remember my father, who like so many other’s after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, full of patriotism flooded the recruiting stations to go off and fight an enemy they didn’t even know. He wound up on transport delivering equipment and picking up the wounded on Okinawa.

I remember my step-father who related to me that he caught a grenade from a Japanese nurse who was tending a wounded Japanese soldier. Him and his friend were tracking down the wounded from the booby-traps they set in Okinawa. He lost an eye and for years sharpnel worked it’s way out of his body. I often wonder if my father had transported my step father off the island.

I remember my Uncle who was wounded in Korea and suffered PTSD after he returned home.

Too all those men and woman who served; I salute you.

Too all the spouses, of your men who fought to keep our country free and safe, I applaude you.

We all know about the hero’s but I wish to say "that all that served, you also are our heroes." Thank You.

Perhaps others would like to take time and share their moments on this day.

My mom, dad, & two uncles served in WWII. I signed up for the draft, but it was stopped before I graduated high school. If called, I'd have been in Viet Nam for sure. I never served, but looking back I wish I'd joined the Navy & seen the world.

Respect to all who stood in harm's way.

I went in the Navy and was at the Bay of Pigs and then was on the west coast aboard a couple Ammunition ships that made 4 cruises off the coast of Viet Nam in the Tonkin Gulf.

I would like go give personal thanks to MSgt. Professor Peabody Sr. (1918 - 2009) United States Army Air Corps (1942 - 1945). He was his Bomb Groups B-17 Electrician and substitute Flight Engineer on missions. Also my Dad's next youngest brother Uncle Peabody Gunner B-24 (1920 - 1943) who's plane barely made it back from Bremen, was killed in action and laid to rest in Cambridge American Military Cemetery in the UK. Additionally my Dad's youngest brother Uncle Peabody (1922 - 2009) who served in the Navy on a mine sweeper in the Pacific (1942 - 1945) I'm proud of you all and I miss you Dad very much.

To all those from all the allied countries who made the ultimate sacrifice in all conflicts and those who died a little inside facing the horrors of War so others may live free, I salute you all. I remember.

While you are stuffing your face with hot dogs and hamburgers, let's also remember the fallen who made this day and this country possible!

My wife's uncle, Allen Sills, was in the Bataan Death March. Since prisoners who couldn't walk were shot, Allen carried his NCOIC to the prison camp. They both died there. His only living sibling is my mother in law. Allen died almost 30 years before my wife was born, but he is still well remembered and held in the greatest of honor in our family. I wish I could have met him.

My son joined the Marines in 2005, and made his best friend. They were like brothers. To this day, he says he has never known another guy he was closer with. In 2007 they deployed to Iraq. My son's best friend was killed by an IED three weeks into the deployment. My son's unit lost 7 Marines on that deployment and 20 the following year in Afghanistan.

    I remember them today.

Semper Fi, Marines. You will never be forgotten.

My son was gravely wounded in Iraq, but he lived, and he lives well today. I asked him one time how he deals with the fact that he cheated death, and other Marines didn't. He said,

"They were the sacrifices, Dad. Each one is like Jesus on the cross. Each one died so that others could live."

My Father got his draft notice in early 1951...to go in the Navy.

He said, "Screw that!" and joined the Marines before he was to report.

He spent the next 20 years in the Corp and retired as a Captain.

All of those 20 years he spent it in Re-Con except for the last year when he was a firearms instructor for the FBI at Quantico.

He was in Korea for the duration of the war.

He spent four (count 'em FOUR) tours in Viet Nam ('59-'60, '63, '64-'65, '67-'68).

After leaving the Marines, he went to college taking hotel management working for Marriott Hotels.

In early '73, he was made the head of hotel procurement for the entire U.S. division of Marriott Hotels.

    He passed away in 1985.

My Father served in the Marine Crops from 57 to 62, then become an Artillery officer in Vietnam. After that, he went on to become a “Special Weapons” officer for some of the nukes in Germany.

My older brother served in the Army. Did the 91 Gulf War, Haiti with 10th, The invasion, and 4 or 5 almost back to back deployments. I’m sad to say that 2012 he comment suicide.

Nah! Not at all. I only believe the real news which you won't find on Fox, Newsmax, Breitbart, and other such right wing extremist and terrorist rags.

It is not uncommon. We just need to keep reaching out to our returning servicemen and support the organization's that also help. Thank you for your post.

I went through recon training at Little Creek Base, Virginia Beach, Va. in 1961. I wonder if he was one of my instructors?

In mid. '60 to early '61, he was based in Quantico, Va. We then moved to Camp Lejeune, NC. 'til mid. '63.

Well, you know what? I searched and searched this. I couldn't find any Tweet from Tweety that says this but I did find a number of people saying it was not true and no one stepped up to show otherwise. So I am going to declare it to be fake until I see proof it's not.

There. You won and I had posted the BS without knowing it. I trusted my source. That'll teach me.

    You're welcome.

The warning signs of fake crapola news

"according to U.S. officials briefed on intelligence reports."

"according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by U.S. officials"

"But people familiar with the matter say"

    "reportedly was"

    "officials said"

    "To some officials"

"Current and former U.S. intelligence officials said"

    "Obama administration officials say"

"The Post was first alerted in mid-December to the meeting by an anonymous letter"

"officials who reviewed the letter and spoke on the condition of anonymity"

"according to those officials and the letter"

"according to the anonymous letter. "

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...ac8b446820a_story.html?utm_term=.71204f807a5a

This this the easiest way to spot a steaming pile of news dung. Some folks will fall for anything.
