cap·i·tal·ism /ˈkapədlˌizəm/ noun noun: capitalism an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state. Tariffs are socialist in nature. The irony is big enough to choke a Russian horse. While screaming about Democrats who want to implement a few programs that are socialist in nature, they are supporting a trade war that use socialist principles. There is no such a thing as pure Capitalism or pure Socialism. Neither one works. It requires a hybrid system that adjusts to fit the times. I don't support most of the programs suggested by Democrats. But I know many systems that we have now don't work - not the least of which being the health care system. The free market doesn't fix everything. That is more than evident. Even trump resorts to socialism while pretending that its not.
And cash payments to farmers or any industry are basic socialism.Once any country establishes a government to promote the public good they are socialist!!!
The term I've heard applied lately is "command economy." Certainly it's antithetical to a free market and capitalistic system. Perhaps more importantly, though, it's being done haphazardly with too little regard for the real-world repercussions on our businesses and our consumers.
. The US Constitution exists to "promote the general welfare" Socialism exists when the means of production are owned by the people. It is, like pure Capitalism, an unknown ideal, having never really existed in actual fact.
