I will state that NO aspects, as in zero, ziltch, nada components of ANY religion belong in any law outside itself...certainly not in society as a whole. Sharia is just the most glaringly nasty version, but all are offensive to someone else and cannot be adapted for the larger population.
"Respecting all views" Should ISIS views be respected? How about the Nazis? The KKK? The GOP? Sorry, I can't respect those that preach hate speech, and try to force their ideologies on everyone else.
You seem to confuse a few things. Okay, so you think your anecdotal evidence supersedes any other evidence INCLUDING fatwas and other Islamic sources. Honor killings are NOT the same thing as a Sharia court adjudication. It is a fact that honor killings are murder in the same way that lynchings were in America back in the day. Honor killings are tribal/cultural, not religious. NOWHERE in Sharia does it state that any muslim is free to kill another for a perceived sin. Honor killings are a phenomena that can still be found in many cultures. Check out honor killings in India for example. It was only a few decades ago that "crimes of passion" were treated with leniency in many western countries. But these FACTS seem to be trumped by your anecdotal evidence. I guess it never occurred to you that in Muslim countries, the religion and the culture are inextricably entwined, and the average person's perspective is shaped by that fact. Given the current situation in the middle east, its rather apparent that there are wildly differing interpretations of Islam. Have you stopped to consider that those that claim heinous acts in the name of Islam are simply using religious arguments to justify their crimes? Or do you think that the scumbag savages of ISIS are pious muslims following the religious true dictates? As to your example of "sharia" law creeping into the American justice system, you should really have much more faith in the system itself. The particular case in question was 5 years ago. And given the original outcome, it was appealed. here is the outcome of the appeal. https://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/mcs/case_law/sd_v_mjr.pdf I can readily understand that your experiences and the data and conclusions you have drawn from them would supersede any legal, academic or religious analysis. As a human I take one's word for lots of things, but when it comes to things that are clearly anecdotal generalizations that directly contradict my own understanding, I don't. Let me rephrase that: We both agree that Sharia Law will NEVER supersede the secular laws of the land.
Good for you, but then again I never included all of those groups now did I, and this wasn't a post about respecting the views of terrorist's or killers from the past or present. This was about all of us respecting each other.....in here......got it?
HUH? and here I thought that a political forum was for exchanging and debating ideas and opinions. Are you one of "those" where no amount of actual information supplied will alter their own perceptions and opinions?
