You are wrong. Videos exist and they sparked outrage. Cruelty to animals may not bother you, but many find it unacceptable. Sea World will no longer have a killer whale show. Bull fighting is declining as well.

Don't worry, you can still pull the wings off flies for amusement.

As Ringling Brothers Circus goes the Democrat party will soon follow, the "Greatest Show on Earth."

The DNC has more clowns that Ringling Brothers Circus ever had.

People should set all their pets free too.

Actually, some species are being saved from extinction by private zoos and collections. But I suppose better extinct than fenced, caged or in an aquarium is better. To some people anyway.

Oh, geeze. I'm not going to pluck the wings off flies for amusement.

I don't personally care. I don't have an interest in seeing the shows anyway. And I can sympathize with the animal cruelty angle, but it seems like most of the consumers' demand is for a show.

What's going to happen in a world without amusements? Are we living in a world that is post-amusements?

The argument was about animal cruelty. No one is suggesting that animal sanctuaries and rescues should be closed down. Suffering and extinction are not the only two options.

Are you saying that people cannot be amused without animal suffering? Most of the consumers demanding a show changed their minds when they discovered they were supporting animal cruelty.

The events speak for themselves. The circus stopped its elephant act and no one visited it anymore.

Well what can I say??? The only other possibility is that people can't afford or aren't willing to pay to go anymore. But the closure happened after the circus stopped its elephant act. It looks like they couldn't last more than a year without the elephants.

Attendance was falling long before the elephant issue. It was time.

It's not a coincidence that Ringling Brothers went out of business after Trump election.

They can't compete with the Trump circus.

Face it, if you took a kid to the circus these days he would spend the whole show staring at his cell phone.
Tastes and social attitudes change. In the 16th century Queen Elizabeth opened her private menagerie to the public. If you bought a cat or a dog along to feed to the lions you got in free!

    I love Colbert's remark:

The circus is getting too much competition from the Trump administration.......:roflol: How true !

Competition from the spooky psycho clowns in the Trump administration has put self respecting spooky clowns out of business....out of jobs...

Huge range of conditions between these circuses and nature preserves and people's homes.

To me, it seems like the demand for ethical treatment of the animals is greater than the demand for the elephants being in a show. Otherwise, they would still be doing it.

Nonsensical blather. Has about as much validity as stating: "Poor, poor cons. Cannot enjoy the mistreatment and torture of these animals anymore."

No more circus? Good, it means I won't be confusing it with US elections any more.

Parading animals around for your entertainment is a 'past time'? Then again I'm used to seeing Americans treat their animals as lifestyle accessories; de-clawing cats, de-barking dogs, trimming their ears, docking their tails, hunting etc. It makes me happy when an animal says 'enough' and fights back.

Actually, the circus is closing for capitalist reasons: they are no longer making profits - that's a conservative idea.

No... they're closing because Green Progressive Liberals are pissed that elephants have to work for a living, and got the better of a 150 year old American institution.

Perhaps you should look at the date of the OP? A mistake anyone would make is reading your post instead of The Huffington Post

Well yes, better extinct than stuck in a cage to be gawped at.

    - - - Updated - - -

It is not important what consumers demand. People used to take picnics to public hangings or watch slaves fight to the death. If those people need to get their amusement from watching animals perform tricks, tricks that they were forced to learn through electric shock punishmant, then they need to have a look at themselves
