You may have to be of a certain age to remember Rocky Marciano, but I certainly remember Ali. Here, Rocky speaks on Cassius Clay, before he changed his name to Muhammed Ali.

At thd time he was exactly correct. Ali hadnt really been tested and if you are looking for textbook boxing you dont look to Ali. Based on what he ultimately did in the ring he is "Thr Greatest Ever" but skill wise he left a lot to bd desired.

Joe Louis laid out how to beat Ali. Block the jab and counter jab, and Ali was a sucker for the left hook. Ali relied on hs natural gifts, foot speed, stamina, reflexes, a great chin, and for the time he was a very tall fighter, at 6'3" Ali rarely gave up the height and reach advantage.

Trainer Eddie Futch using Louis gameplan gave Ali hell with Ken Norton. Norton was a good but not grrat fighter. He was however a genetic phenomenon. Ali didnt enjoy the same kind of natural advantages against Norton. Norton was just as big, just as fast, and way stronger. With Ali's physical advantages neutralized the Louis gameplan drilled into Norton by a hall of fame trainer beat Ali once officially and twice of you score the second fight honestly.

Now do I think a prime Rocky beats Ali? Hard to say. Ali's physical advantages wouls be a real problem for Rocky but Rocky is very similar Frasier who beat Ali. Now would Joe Louis beat Ali? Oh hell yes everytime and twice on Sunday. Lewis is physically like Norton. Ali's physical advantages are neutralized and Louis is 10 times the fighter Norton ever was.

Its the guy who never learned how to deal with the jab(Ali), especially the counter jab, vs. one of the best jabs/counter jabs in history. Louis busts Ali up big time.

I also think Dempsey busts Ali up. Again for the same reason.Dempsey was a long 6'1". 77" reach which is really long for 6'1". So he has the length to neutralize Ali. Then when he sees Ali swaying back from jabs and dropping his right to throw his uppercut lord help him. Unlike Frasier who was not a good finisher of Dempsey hurt you the next thing you would remember was waking up in the hospital.

Today is the 43rd Anniversary of Ali beating Foreman in Zaire.
