Zarif, who is usually an excellent spokesman for Iran, for some reason messes up when he talks to NBC! This is the 2nd time he has irritated me with his comments talking to this NBC reporter and I think you know about the other time. But knowing that Iran is basically in a game of chicken, he is acting as though marking Iran as the peace loving chicken will help! In my opinion, he went a bit too far in his comments about Iran not starting a war. Just yesterday, Iran delivered a warning that there will be consequences if the US even talks about seizing the Iranian tanker and the US stopped any such talk, focusing instead on trying to scare off innocent 3rd party individuals and companies with threats of sanctions etc. Now, with these comments by Zarif, the US may decide that there will be no real consequences even if the US does act.

It's definitely a difficult one to get right. I know today I have come across American articles on the increasing aggressiveness of Iran which of course is how the Trump Regime wants to show it. I heard Zarif say that they were not looking for war but if they themselves felt under attack they would give back more than expected. I think sometimes there is more said between the lines but of course that relies on those you are speaking to understanding it. Very difficult to get right I think, though I get what you say about how the US might read it.

In reviewing the impact of US sanctions, I had noted that one of the few industries that has shown itself somewhat vulnerable to these kind of sanctions has been Iran's auto industry. I also mentioned that perhaps that was a good thing, as Iran's auto industry was quite mired by corruption and mismanagement. Well, as it so happens, Iranian authorities have moved to clear up some of the corruption in that industry, or so I hope. Sometimes, these efforts in Iran are more cosmetic and mostly to settle scores, but if indeed Iran is showing a willingness to go to the route of the corruption that does adversely affect most of those industries in Iran that have foreign ties, then it will eventually be in an even better position to handle these sanctions against it.

I had assumed that the UK had done what the US told it to do over Grace 1 because they were so vulnerable over Brexit. However this article suggests that the reason they gave it back, and they now are the No Dealers, is because planning on No Deal there is absolutely no way we have the time or money to be involved in a war....so that kind of cancels out the hold Brexit gave the US over the UK, for now at least.

Video of protests in Iran yesterday. The demand of these protesters had nothing to do with what the US has been working on. Rather, they were animal rights advocates who were upset about reports of poor treatment of dogs by an animal shelter run by the Tehran municipality. Their protests and pressure caused the municipality to cancel its contract with a subcontractor at the center of the controversy.
If the same level of protest had involved something that the US was pushing on, it would be rather big news in the US. Especially since I just read that Mike Pompeo is claiming that US policy on Iran is 'working'.

This report along videos of the same protests by the US government funded Radio Farda, a branch of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. This issue has raised more anger these days in Iran than the other things being engineered by the US.

It seems the US army is better preparing itself for a war with Iran, coming up with a deck of cards for its soldiers showing various Iranian weapons systems. The fact that it is the US army (as opposed to say the air force or navy) was interesting to me, although the same kind of deck of cards have been issued previously for Russia and China -- and no one quite expects either to be invaded by the US anytime soon!

Report: Army introduces new deck of playing cards with Iranian weapons systems

The original report on the issue was from the Federation of American Scientists and you can see the whole 54 card deck (52 cards and 2 jokers) here.

    p.s.
I quickly browsed the deck and found it interesting, but did notice some errors too!
