They started off trying to make everyone believe they were and independent impartial fact checking service. But then people found out it was run by left wingers with an agenda.
Just like a far right winger to cite a trashy right wing blog as a primary source. OF course the story in that trash blog was highly slanted. It whined that Snopes had attacked Gateway Pundit and Breitbart as "conspiracy theory" site. They ARE conspiracy theory websites and both have a long history of posting lies. You made up the part about Politifact. I generally don't spend much effort of fact check sites. I can read on my own. But I know right wing trash when I see it. And the only people on line that call Snopes bias, are the right wing trash sites that Snopes continually catches lying!
Is there any subject on which you are not in error? If you haven't been paying attention, this forum, and every other web site that depends on donations, regularly puts up ads asking for donations, or otherwise the site won't be able to continue.
That is not what is going on with snopes though. All their ad money is being withheld related to a lawsuit having to do with among other things, who controls/owns the company. Their ad revenue partner is one of the companies with a purported ownership interest.

Actually, I saw where they debunked lawn-chair Larry. This was an event that took place in Los Angeles. A man tied a bunch of helium weather balloons to a lawn chair and took off. He dropped his bb gun [intended to shoot the balloons so he could land] and ended up floating over LAX. They said it was bogus but I remember watching the live reports! They had to shut down LAX until he was clear off the area.
Hah, so they have corrected it! I see that inaccurate stories of this circulated in 97. That may have been what caused the confusion. It was originally listed as a false claim. It was a big deal when it happened. They played tapes from the tower operators who couldn't believe what they were hearing: We've got a guy in a lawn chair at 5000 feet. LOL!

Does this work for you? Something about Snopes. They intentionally ignore to comment on content that they know they can't slant, because it's a reputation killer. Their standard answer in those cases are either completely ignore or "we can neither confirm or deny". Maybe if you post from a few sites that aren't so far right that they are considered garbage by anyone but the farthest of the extreme right people would take you more seriously.
