    'In the United Kingdom, police and counter-terrorism authorities like the National Police Chiefs’ Council and the London Metropolitan Police promote a different version for surviving a firearms or weapons attack at home (and recently, abroad). The last step in their “Run, Hide, Tell” directs victims to turn off their cell phones and only call the police once it’s safe to do so.

    This is peculiar advice even in a jurisdiction that gives its subjects almost no legal options for arming and defending themselves (here, here, here and here). What if running or hiding isn’t safe or even available alternatives? How will a person in hiding know when it’s safe to call the police? What if law enforcement doesn’t arrive quickly or find the victims in time?'

    When a culture and government all about control are willing to sacrifice the citizenry for the status quo.

    The Crown prosecution sternly warns British Subjects;
    Do not take the Law into your own hands.

    Self defense is considered the same as "Taking the Law into ones own hands."

    Wow. The U.S. Federal government official stance is "run, hide, fight."

    It should be "shoot back".

    Depending on who you are, it should be "run toward the gunfire".

    Run, Hide, then tell the unarmed bobby to call someone who can actually help. No wonder we kicked these idiots out of America...

    Does this now mean that someone keeping their phone on will be charged with engaging in vigilantism, because they chose to take the law into their own hands by not turning it off?

    The govt is just saying that, they don't really mean it. Wait until someone does fight back and is unsuccessful, the govt will change its tune to "run, hide, call for help" or something similar. And if someone does fight back successfully, the govt will still not like it because the "progressives" just can't stand it when people dont need the govt.

    get to cover, control access to your space with heavy duty firepower, call the cops and let them do their jobs but if someone tries to enter your space keep shooting until there is no longer any chance of a threat.

    If you're about to get raped, best to plead and try to evacuate your bladder and bowels to deter the rape.

    You cannot be trusted to defend yourself.

    They aren't going to put it in training materials for government workers unless they mean it. The official stance is "Run, hide, fight."

    We aren't going to European forums and trying to affect internal politics. We are just thankful for what we have and are contrasting it with other countries. England has tied the hands of their subjects and opened their borders.

    Curious question. IF in the open and someone starts randomly shooting people, should you run for cover OR drop to the ground and scramble on the ground for cover? Often, the latter would seem wiser if bullets are just being sprayed out. I think generally the military advise is to hit the dirt rather than run for cover.

    Ideally cover is close by and that will allow you to draw and return accurate fire at the active shooter
