I'm not so sure, I think the Democrats refusal to take any position other than "we won't cooperate nor stand for any form of preventative policy" on illegal immigration is setting Trump up for another term
Democrats don't even have a real platform yet. The closest any of them have gotten was AOC with the New Green Deal. They aren't going to run simply on a hate Trump platform. I just see way too many negatives in the democratic party for them to be serious contenders in 2020. Since Biden is out they really have nobody legitimate to run against Trump.
You are betting on winning the super bowl before you have a star quarterback and starting lineup picked? Lol. I mean really, lol.
It all depends. It depends if the Democrats learned a valuable history lesson from 2016 that candidates matter. It also depends on whom the Democrats nominate. Will they nominate a candidate that can attract the independent voter? Hillary didn't and lost even though she had a much larger base of support. It 2016 the Democrats ignored America as a whole. In February of 2016 a poll showed 56% of all Americans wanted the Democrats to nominate someone other than Hillary. The Democrats ignored this warning, ignored America as a whole which was their right. Democrats nominate the Democratic candidate, not America as a whole. Just Democrats. Perhaps the Democrats also forgot that in national elections, the presidency, independents usually decides who wins. Independents in 2016 going to Trump. If I wanted to ensure victory in 2020, I would look for a candidate who is attractive to middle America. By middle America I mean those in the center, center right and center left, those who fall in-between the far left and right ideologies of our two major parties. Middle America, perhaps better known as independents, the non-affiliated, those who now make up 40% of the electorate as the two major parties have been shrinking. No wonder their shrinking when the best candidates they can come up with is Trump and Hillary. If that is the best each has to offer, perhaps it's time both major parties fold up their tent and go onto the trash heap of history. With a decent candidate the democrats should win easily against Trump. 2020 is the democrats election to lose, but so too was 2016 and they managed to do exactly that. 2020 revolves around one thing, whom the democrats nominate. One who was disliked more than Trump by independents, Hillary Clinton in 2016 or one who could win independents. Who is attractive to them. The ball is in the democrats court. What they do with it remains to be seen.
