As the Mueller report reveals in fantastic detail, the IRA deployed multiple methods to influence U.S. electoral preferences and political views — primarily in the virtual world, on social media platforms, but also, at times, in the physical one. The GRU stole private property from the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, as well as from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, and then published this data to try to damage candidate Hillary Clinton and help candidate Donald Trump. [source] So we have a substantiated successful attack by a foreign country that most Americans considered a national enemy before the election of trump, while our Republican fiends no doubt support this warfare against the very basic principle of our democratic values (win at all costs seem to be the motto they have adopted), once trump is removed either through the upcoming election or the following one, what should be done to prevent this in the future, a question proposed mostly to people that do not support a president installed by means of corruption and foreign influence but anyone feel free. Can we even do anything? Should America retaliate? In what way?
Well, I'd say the first thing we should do is tell the next Susan Rice not to order the people who defend us against this sort of thing to stand down.
I definitely agree, the future wars will be fought through cyberspace, or at least started there. Our cyber defense is massively underfunded and not taken seriously
Go for it. Attack Russia and see how reckless they will be. If you think Russia will obey the rules of engagement and LIO for civilian casualties, I have a bridge to sell you in Narnia. They would nuke the US if we pressed them militarily. They are that crazy. But yes, Hillary. Lead the charge. Or we can make peace with it and realize that THE US INTERFERES IN ELECTIONS, SOVEREIGN NATIONAL MATTERS ALL THE TIME! Libya anyone? Grow up. We get hacked all the time and we hack probably more than most.
Eh, we could meddle in Ukraine's election to foment support for a more anti russian administration. Oops, we already did that.
We were not attacked at all. The DNC was hacked, and they posted memes on ****ing Facebook. The hyperbole from Congress and other Americans is outright sickening. It's okay to make a case without overstating reality on planet earth. And the fact that you ask these questions, underlies you DO know reality on planet earth. Likewise, the "damage Hillary Clinton and help candidate Donald Trump" is also incredibly hyerbolic. By that point, it was ONLY two candidates. The investigation also showed interference for both Sanders and Jill Stein, but we don't hear a WORD about that. Why? Because they weren't elected, and they weren't Donald Trump. In terms of the physical foreign intrusion, which is much more serious we could ban ambassadors or such officials from touching US Soil. Though that sets a dangerous tit for tat precedent that'd ruin diplomatic relations between every nation around the world. But in terms of the cyber world? Facebook can add verification, so can twitter, but that's about it. We can't control memes, and we have laws against hacking.
Which brings us to a larger point. Should the US be doing this. I personally believe the US needs to back away from being both the world police and attempting to force our doctrine. We can support global efforts but need to allow it to be a UN issue. Not an American one. We need to focus on our on country.
I completely agree. We can't hack, kill other world leaders, and then get mad when someone tries to get us back. We all need to chill out. Hillary woud have lost either way. The Dems are outraged about this but said NOTHING when Hillary and Obama helped KILL a world leader. In fact I believe Hillary's exact words on live TV were: We came. We saw. He died.
yes, it did. it was actually in response to this post but someone posted before i did: We were not attacked at all. The DNC was hacked, and they posted memes on ****ing Facebook. Before we jump off the deep end, Russia has been attacking us for decades. This is not a new event. Their goal in this election was not to sway the election one way or the other, because they pulled crap on both sides, their goal was to create civil discourse... AND THEY SUCCEEDED. These investigations by the Democrats and their attacks on the Trump Administration is EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANTED. Now you know the rest of the story.
Both sides ignore when their “team” acts unethically. This alone in long term damage is probably worse than any county could do to us
Name one Republican that supports "this warfare against the very basic principle of our democratic values"
our alleged wars on crime, drugs, and terror are a waste of money. There is no Soviet threat and Russia is not the same level of threat. The right wing proved they are simply lousy capitalists and needed the socialism to get over the fact we were getting beaten to outer space.
all of our alleged wars on crime, drugs, and terror are "warfare against the basic principle of the democratic values established in our federal Constitution."
And the left-wing wackos took it hook line and sinker. Just look at them, they have spent the last 2+ years attacking a duly elected President and accused him of crimes he did not do. Look in the damn mirror.
Yep and on direct orders from her president because ALLOWING the Russians free reign fit his plans to launch an illegal investigation against Trump for bogus partisan reasons. Also note that our leftists do not care that the communist Chinese and Great Britain ALSO interfered in the election, and again because they could not INVENT a tie in between them and Trump. They actually believe that no thinking citizen in this nation . . . noticed.
If you want a strong country like Russia to change what they are doing you have to go to war with them to MAKE them stop. Talking is useless -- unless you can make them believe you actually do have a real redline.
So Barack Obama is not also to blame for having ordered Susan Rice to order the stand down. You are not the least bit interested in knowing WHY Obama did that and then why he endorsed an illegal spying operation against Trump? Interesting.
