A F16 can cost around 20,000,000 US$ [or more, depending on the type].

So, let's imagine we are going to send 100 F16 to Ukraine. We should accept the possibility to lose 2,000,000,000 US$ [we should replace those planes]. I guess this is why Poland would prefer to send cheap Mig29 to Ukraine ...

Sending anything else then what the Ukrainians are trained on is a waste. They don't have the training to use anything else.
But sending Poland's Mig 29 in exchange for F35 is a good deal for both Poland and Ukraine.

 

But let me do it again.
The Nato meeting of the heads of government, ribbon cutting ceremony for the new NATO headquarter. He walked through the headquarter and called it a waste of money. Pragmatically that would be the automatic choice: Ukraine Air Force has got [it had, before of this war] Mig29 in service.
That's a plane that its pilots know very well [Mig29-MU1 and Mig29-UBM1].
Unfortunately they substantially know well only Russian planes.
An other "toy" they use is the Sukhoi SU-27 ... nice, but old.
