What's a long time? If you're referring to Scalia, that was less than a year and that wasn't through lack of trying to get it done sooner. And he was DEAD. I'll remind you, I'm talking over 2 years here of a seat being potentially vacant if she literally hangs on then decides to retire. And if Garland was nominated I wouldn't have given a $&#(@(@.

But glad to know you still can't just be honest.

I am not aware of anyone forcing her to stay on.

Say what you will, she cares enough about her country to fight against the orange corruption.

I simply have to ask this question. If Trump gave an iron clad guarantee that Merrick Garland would be his nomination should Ginsburg retire, what would the liberals say then? One time offer and if refused and she dies before Trump's term ends, then he nominates who he wants. Would the liberals agree to that?

Her mind is crystal clear. Why should she give up a seat? Maybe she should take a 11 month break since the Republicans feel it is fine to not have a justice that long.

You set the standard and now you can not even condemn it.

oh she made her views on Trump well known during the election....highly unethical behavior, but I think she has earned the right to go out on her own.

Let's not go overboard here....her mind is hardly "crystal clear" and hasn't been in awhile...but she's certainly earned the right to go out with ease. RIP

Her mind is crystal clear. No one .....and I mean no one....has suggested she can not give intelligent legal opinions and rulings

Well to be fair...I never thought she could give legal opinions...let alone intelligent ones. She gave opinions. However when someone is falling asleep on the bench and at the SOTU...she's hardly "crystal clear" anymore

Calling her comments unethical while supporting a single member of the legislative branch protecting the executive branch is laughable.

Why don't you want someone on the Court that pays attention to cases? It almost seems like you don't and would prefer that the co-equal branch of Govt that is the Court be shut down....that's just sad.

Only God knows how much time she has

But if she kicks the bucket while trump is still in office all hell will break loose on the liberal side

She does. Her legal opinions are as sharp as ever and no one has questioned her legal ability.

You guys already shut down this branch for 11 months.....and you refuse to condemn it

Ginsberg can't attend hearings or deliberations and is now missing other events due to her health. And this is not the first time. The question is how long can we have someone on the bench who cannot fully carry out the duties and responsibilities and what to do if they refuse to resign the position?

At least you didn't say God given right because God will one day ensure she retires.

What was her last legal opinion? I openly question her legal ability...she doesn't have any...she just write opinion based on her personal thoughts and opinions, not based on the law.

When did "you guys" shut down "this branch" for 11 months? Not sure what you are talking about

I have never liked her hyperliberal positions on anything, Spooky, but I would never wish her ill health.

In fairness, I think the Germans have it right -- in Germany, ALL of their federal judges MUST retire at age 70 -- period! As we all know, Justice Ginsburg is 85 years old. No Supreme Court Justice, Liberal or Conservative should still be making important decisions that affect the entire United States at the age of 85....

Consider: when the Constitution was written, the average lifespan of Americans was less than 50....
