    (Updated 5:55pm 12th March 2018 )

The poison used to target a former spy and his daughter was from the Russian-made nerve agent group novichok, the PM has said.

One chemical from the group, codenamed A-230, is between five and eight times more potent than VX, the nerve agent that was used to kill the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

There are more than 100 formulations in the novichok family, all developed by the Soviet Union in the 1970s and 1980s.

Novichok is the Russian word for "newcomer".

As with other nerve agents, the chemicals block acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme active in the nervous system.

The result is involuntary contraction of all muscles, leading to cardiac arrest and asphyxiation.

:: LIVE: 'Highly likely' Russia is behind spy poisoning

The agents are dispersed as an ultra-fine powder instead of a gas or vapour. They can be inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin.

Significantly, several of the novichok chemicals are so-called binary weapons - with two non-toxic precursor chemicals that can be mixed prior to use.

This makes them safer to transport and handle.

One of these is novichok-5, derived from the highly potent A-230 chemical. Its precursor chemicals are ordinary organophosphate pesticides and can be legally made at agricultural chemical manufacturers.

    JUST IN:

The Foreign Office summoned Russia's ambassador to provide an explanation.

The chemical used in the attack, the PM said, has been identified as being part of a group of nerve agents known as Novichok.

Mrs May said: "Either this was a direct action by the Russian state against our country, or the Russian government lost control of its potentially catastrophically damaging nerve agent and allowed it to get into the hands of others."

She said Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson had told the ambassador Moscow must provide "full and complete disclosure" of the Novichok programme to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Mrs May said the UK must stand ready to take much more extensive measures, and these would be set out in the Commons on Wednesday should there be no adequate explanation from Russia.

Of course the British are going crazy. They are bowing down to the Prince of Saudi Arabia and selling him arms to he could murder thousands in Yemen. I mean how desperate can you get?

Whenever the British want to brainwash others into believing something without being dragged to court and sued for libel, they use terms like:

    Allege
    We believe so
    Highly likely
    Probably

Well true to form Theresa May came out with: "Russia highly likely behind ex spy's poisoning."

Saddam killed over 5000 people with gas and you didn't want us to take him out of power, why do you care about Putin taking out a few with this?

    Seems hypocritical.

Sadlaam didn't kill someone living in a different country, much less multiple people. How sure are you that Putin hasn't killed thousands in his own country? I am not so sure.

So killing people in another country is ok with you?

Tell us again why you were against the Iraq war then, we didn't kill them here, we killed them over there.

How did you get THAT from what I posted???? A government assassinating someone in another country is a huge event. The opposite of what you said.

Obama assassinated an American citizen in another country without even a trial.

I am sure you have a problem with him doing that don't you?

Now the latest. Instead of proving that Russia had anything to do with the poisoning, which would be highly improbable, Therese May wants Russia to prove it was innocent and didn't commit the crime. If not they will assume Russia is guilty - if you can believe it?

Get lost Therese May. I suggest Moscow should conduct its own secret investigation, and demand that Britain proves its innocence not only in this crime, but in all the deaths of Russians that were killed in Britain.

From what I gather, London lures them into Britain, and then kills them so they can blame the Russians. If I were a Russian, I would be wary before stepping there. Look at Skripal's daughter? Here she left Russia in perfect health, and as soon as she lands in Britain they kill her.

So we kill and lie, what's the big deal.

I don't. It was a known, self-proclaimed enemy combatant. Don't even compare any of that crap to what just happened.

No, it's just that I despise liars, hypocrites and criminals, and that's what they do to push their one world agenda - they lie, cheat and kill.

Moon of Alabama states on his site, why the claims by Theresa May are dubious. He said following seems more likely.

Way more likely is an involvement of Skripal in the Steele dossier and the CIA/MI6 operation against Donald Trump. Was he assailed because he threatened to talk about it?

This is interesting, because the airplane that came down after take off in Moscow, had two men on board that were witnesses against Hillary Clinton.

Omg will you stop with the dumb ass mooooh of Alabama... oh wait all your sources suck you won't have anything to link to.

Yes Skripal contributed to the dossier and the Russians killed him because of it. If it weren't for the dossier there probably wouldn't be an investigation because Downers "warning" on it's own would not have been enough..... the sanctions against Russia would have been cancelled. Flynn would be National Security Adviser and him and Kushner would have a back channel to Russia where they can plot without any interference...

Sergei Skripal: FIFA World Cup boycott looms amid Russia’s spy scandal
    http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/re...l/news-story/f60f604aaae5c03e32043489dde297ab

There seem to be more and more calls world wide for a boycott of the FIFA World Cup.. I think it's good... I support it. I believe there should be a ban on this level of competitions in Russia for the future

    Well, is anyone really surprised?

This is Russia, it's just what they do. Their culture applies strength and has their Russian masculine brovado at a much higher state than The West.

We USED to be the same way, if we found out some one was a traitor they were dead on US soil, i know slight difference. Spying is serious biz.... Not sure why there is so much surprise, and what are we gonna do, invade Russia? Yeah, have fun....

if the substance comes from Soviet days, then it was the US who had access to Soviet chemical laboratories in 1990s and grabbed everything there.

    so what?
    why?
    for what reason?
them being utterly bitter that England lost the World Cup bid to Russia is understood, but why lose face over it?

Russia is behaving like a spoilt child... there needs to be consequences, in my opinion we're already in a cold war situation... just not official yet.
