It depends on where you go and when. A couple of months ago I went into the Mission district on Howard street. It's a relatively decent area. Along the way, I encountered a number of rather disgusting messes. Near a bus stop, a man was wrapping his face with what appeared to be packing tape and dancing gleefully around. It's hard to describe, but he was shirtless and the table wound tightly around his face and part of his body. Another block up and several homeless people were screaming at cops dealing with a vagrant sleeping in the stairwell of an apartment building. One time, many years ago (this is not a new problem for SF), I was at Civic Center and as I walked by the BART entrance the escalator step coming toward the top had a giant steaming pile of feces on it. Another two blocks up was a passed out man on the sidewalk that I had to step around. His genitals were on full display.

I try to avoid anywhere near downtown SF these days. I get too OCD and the images I take home every time are awful. Not that my hometown of Oakland is a whole lot better, sometimes.

 

With all the homeless in the city peeing and defecating on the streets and little or nothing being done, what will it hurt to allow a few of the remaining good citizens of the city to do the same. Of course let's be sure and handcuff the guy trying to have breakfast on the BART.

back in '15, we took a road trip from oregon to ny driving i84 through idaho & utah to connect with i80 as we passed through all those cattle ranches the stench was unbearable from the mountains of cow crap piled up along the hwy's, it made our eyes burn and this was in february with temps below zero... ican only imagine how bad it gets during the summer heat in the blistering sun... needless to say, we won't be driving that route ever again.

that said, it must be absolutely putrid in cali with piles of human turds and dark yellow (dehydration) urine... the left coast is truly becoming a pile of shitholes.

i'm rootin for the 'ring of fire' to clean things up out there, the sooner the better... let's go andreas! do your thing!

Will never happen to me. I know what it means to work, work hard for low pay to make ends meet. I know what it means to do without, taking the bus to work, no cable anything, no smart phone, no internet. Work, eat, sleep do it again tomorrow. Yet here I am prospering again, my faith in God helped me through. I know where I'm going when I die.....how about you?

There is an unwillingness to look at results. Trump didn't get the wall, but people will still vote for him. Tax increases have not improved roads, schools, or the homelessness problem, but people keep voting for dems. Its like a religion.
