Not all viruses yes which why we do other things. Like wash our hands. To kill those viruses. Which isn’t effective against airborne viruses. So we wear masks to prevent their spread. It’s like having armor and a shield too. You want a shield but armor is good too.

Except wearing masks doesn't prevent their spread. Viruses are orders of magnitude smaller than pores in cloth and disposable masks. In the best case they barely limit the spread and in the worse case they exacerbate the problem by making people feel protected when they are not!

    .

    Here's an interesting news article:

Pentagon scientists reveal a microchip that senses COVID-19 in your body BEFORE you show symptoms and a filter that extracts the virus from blood

    * Scientists at the Pentagon's secretive unit are researching viruses and developing pandemic cures
    * They work at Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and other Pentagon laboratories
    * DARPA's teams saw COVID-19 infected 1,271 onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt as the virus spread unchecked
    * In response they have developed a microchip to detect asymptomatic COVID in a bid to prevent an outbreak
    * The chip is inserted below skin and triggers a sensor if COVID infects the body
    * DARPA have also created a filter which can remove COVID virus from the blood when attached to dialysis
    * They are working on a vaccine that would work against all coronaviruses, even ones not yet identified
    * The team also successfully manufactured antibodies against Spanish Flu

I already posted this in this thread already. Viruses don’t travel by themselves. They travel via water droplets. Ever been in the cold and you can see your breath? That’s how airborne viruses travel. That’s why you cover you nose when you sneeze or cough. The water droplets are bigger than the mask fibers. So they get stuck behind the mask.

    1. Viruses do not only travel on water droplets
    2. Water droplets evaporate leaving a live virus on whatever it is the droplet landed on. If that happens to be your mask you can then breathe the virus right through the pores. Or get the virus on your hands if you adjust the mask or take it off.

Would you think ffs??? Masks provided a modicum of protection when there was virtually no resistance to the virus. But now that millions have recovered and millions more are vaccinated they are no longer needed. It can be argued that masks are doing more harm than good at the moment.

    1. Good job. Wash your hands. Cough in your sleeve.
    2. Not all of the viruses do. Most don’t. And even then, guess what! The virus dies by the time it evaporates. Oh wait not really because you’re always breathing. You make your own water droplet shield with every breath that you take. Take the mask off sure. It will evaporate. After the virus dies.

I have thought about this. Clearly something you haven’t. The point isn’t to stop the virus completely. It’s to lower the spread of the virus. Instead of billions of viruses, it’s millions now. Sure still a lot but not that much compared to before. But those million? Much less harmful because there’s less spread. The question isn’t how to get rid of the virus completely but how to control it. Masks help control the spread of the disease.

This is simply not true. Where the hell did you hear it? Or did you just make it up?

You haven't thought about this at all let alone show that masks are an effective measure.

I made a thread on this. Because I saw it with my own two eyes.

The virus dies after a couple of hours outside the body. Doesn’t take a genius to realize the virus will die on a mask as well.

The virus can live for HOURS outside the body but a droplet of water can evaporate in minutes!! Do you even consider what you are saying before you post it?

Show me worldwide medical consensus that a piece of cloth is an effective defense against a virus. The idea is incredibly stupid and quite possibly dangerous. In the final analysis I think we'll find that the pandemic was exacerbated due to improper materials and improper use of masks.

Yeah I did. And I remembered doesn’t really matter for the reason mentioned above. It stops most of the virus.

It's funny that the data that we have doesn't support the mask argument. It's funny that states that have dropped their mask requirement are not seeing spikes of infections. Damn facts.
Don't worry, I promise you it won't be long until your overlords allow you to believe the truth.

The data we have does support the mask argument? And it’s not a mask argument so much as a scientific consensus that masks work. And the reason we’re not seeing those spikes is primarily because they already had them. Take California for instance. Had a mask mandate cases were low. Got rid of it. Cases went up. Now we have a vaccine that doesn’t protect against variants. What’s going to happen when those variants hit do you think?

    1. "And it’s not a mask argument so much as a scientific consensus that masks work"
    - Argument from authority noted but how many would agree that a cloth mask provides much (if any) protection? In order for masks to be effective there's a laundry list of do's and don't that ordinary citizens simply will not follow. Further, there is a real risk that some people will behave in an unsafe manner because people like you keep telling them that a mask is adequate protection.
    2. " And the reason we’re not seeing those spikes is primarily because they already had them."
-I agree, and another reason that masks are not necessary. I already conceded that early in the pandemic masks were probably effective in (somewhat) limiting spread. As the vectors for infection continue to shrink the efficacy of mask wearing shrinks and becomes dominated by the negative point noted in #1.
    3. "Take California for instance."
-Disingenuous response (for your sake I hope it was disingenuous). A mask mandate was not the only policy that California had in place. Most likely their spike was due to opening of businesses but so not much from repealing a mask mandate. Since viruses are spread from person to person it stands to reason that limiting instances of people in close proximity to each other would cause infection rates to drop. What we saw in Cali does not even come close to supporting your position. And I hope you knew that before you posted...
    4. "Variants" Oh FFS!! There will ALWAYS be a threat of a new variant or novel virus just like there ALWAYS has been. Until the variant starts spreading locally you treat like we've treated swine flu or any other occurrence of a potentially dangerous virus. What you don't do is walk around with a rag over your pie hole for the rest of your life because there might be a virus problem somewhere some day.

    Not really no.

    The entire medical establishment.

Until there's a spike in one of the variants. Which we know is coming. Or some other disease comes along while the medical system is recovering from Covid.

Your entire argument is that there are extenuating circumstances that make masks irrelevant. You realize that right? And this has happened in other states as well. Once the restrictions go down, cases go up.

Or here me out, we could just wear our masks.

My entire argument is based in reality not theoretical, lab condition conclusions.

No it has not! There is no state that I'm aware of that ONLY removed mask mandates and had infections go up. You claim to rely on science but then show in post after post that you don't know the first thing about science.

Or here me out, **** ***! The answer is NO.

    How do filters collect particles?
These capture, or filtration, mechanisms are described as follows:

    Figure 1: Filtration mechanisms
    • Inertial impaction: With this mechanism, particles having too much inertia due to size or mass cannot follow the airstream as it is diverted around a filter fiber. This mechanism is responsible for collecting larger particles.
    • Interception: As particles pass close to a filter fiber, they may be intercepted by the fiber. Again, this mechanism is responsible for collecting larger particles.
    • Diffusion: Small particles are constantly bombarded by air molecules, which causes them to deviate from the airstream and come into contact with a filter fiber. This mechanism is responsible for collecting smaller particles.
    • Electrostatic attraction: Oppositely charged particles are attracted to a charged fiber. This collection mechanism does not favor a certain particle size.
In all cases, once a particle comes in contact with a filter fiber, it is removed from the airstream and strongly held by molecular attractive forces. It is very difficult for such particles to be removed once they are collected. As seen in Figure 2, there is a particle size at which none of the “mechanical” collection mechanisms (interception, impaction, or diffusion) is particularly effective. This “most penetrating particle size” (MPPS) marks the best point at which to measure filter performance. If the filter demonstrates a high level of performance at the MPPS, then particles both smaller AND larger will be collected with even higher performance.

This is perhaps the most misunderstood aspect of filter performance and bears repeating. Filters do NOT act as sieves. One of the best tests of a filter’s performance involves measuring particle collection at its most penetrating particle size, which ensures better performance for larger and smaller particles. Further, the filter’s collection efficiency is a function of the size of the particles, and is not dependent on whether they are bioaerosols or inert particles.

What is the size of COVID-19 viruses?

To date, research has shown that the viruses that have been identified and isolated can range in diameter size from 20 nm to as large as 500 nm.

You know it took me forever to understand what people meant by "free government money". Kinda glad I learned that little fact about welfare then. It's nice to know the history of welfare in this country.

In your first sentence you reject science.

In your second paragraph, you make claims that have NOTHING to do with what science has been applied to this issue.

THEN, you say that someone ELSE doesn't know crap about science????

    PuhLEES. Pick a side.

And, realize that if you only accept science if it happens to coincide with your previously held opinion, then it has NOTHING to do with accepting science.
