    Solo hasn't done so hot (surprise, surprise), and it seems a Boba Fett spin-off film has now been announced. Yeah... That's another one I'll be ignoring.

    He's right.

    If they focused only on the fan base, they could charge a lot more money, perhaps create a better quality story that wouldn't have to try to appeal to a wider audience. When such a large percentage of the total movie goers are fans, it doesn't make as much sense to try to tailor the movie to additional movie goers who will, in any case, be much more lukewarm about it by comparison.

    I disagree. Focusing purely on the fan base, who have proven irrational, arrogant, misogynistic and heinous at times, alienates the potential to grow audiences in the future. Also, appealing solely to fans means directors will be too worried about making every fan happy instead of doing their own story, not to mention that fans don’t always know what’s best.
