When the American Colonists who primarily were organized by Benjamin Franklin and Patrick Henry organized the Continental Army, Navy, and Marines, they chose the Scottish as their model of bravery and organization.
I was indoctrinated that the Continental Army was organized and trained after the Prussian army. Where as the Continental Navy and Marine Corps was organized and trained after the Royal Navy. By the time of the American revolution the Scott's were always recognized as being warriors to be held in awe. In the video of the 1st Mar Div band and the 5th Marines who were marching behind the band In Dana Point I noticed the 5th Marines were disarmed. Then I noticed that the parade took place in 2011. That makes sense, the Obama administration never trusted U.S. Marines with weapons.
