Yep, Torah only covers the first few books. Tanakh is more comprehensive.

The Bible is only essential to those who want it to be. Many people and nations have got by without it. The Bible creation story is an adaptation of many earlier stories. It'snot essential to understand Creation. In fact, no-one as yet understands the creation but we do know the early myths were adapted by the Hebrew scribes.

 

The bible implies ideas about necessary being that cannot be found anywhere else, not least among them is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Salvation from the penalty for sin via grace through faith in Jesus Christ is of value to me. I would have never come upon that via the balance of the material universe.

 

Marrhew 25:31-46 is a powerful statement of our responsibility toward others - including the penalties for failure

This passage puts the golden rule to shame.

Plus, I suspect even a watered down version of it would be derided as nonsense by the vast majority of Americans, regardless of religious belief.

The Bible does not imply the second . Only the NT. The OT does not accept a vicarious sacrifice. 'Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year, when we are closest to G‑d and to the essence of our souls. Yom Kippur means “Day of Atonement,” as the verse states, “For on this day He will forgive you, to purify you, that you be cleansed from all your sins before G‑d.”. Leviticus 16:30

'The bible says', amounts to nothing more or less than 'I infer'. 'The bible says', can only be employed by those who have not outgrown their first impression of what the bible says.

Any portion of scripture is good for instruction, but no portion of scripture is good for conclusion. Conclusions should only be drawn from the full counsel of God's creation.

Agreed. The real Bible can only be understood by those who have outgrown the teaching of the Bible by the Church over 2000 years. This is the story of Adam according to the Hebrew language.
