    Hi all,

I'll be heading out in the next month or so to return to the great fort benning for like the 5th time. This time, I ain't exactly hating it. Looking forward to the future and where my career takes me. My journey as an 11B has been interesting, to say the least. Being enlisted isn't as glamorous as the recruiters make it seem, but it has its moments!

Over the next few weeks you will see less of me, as I prepare for some of the next phases of training. Once I ship out next month, I'll probably be radio silent for most of 12-14 weeks. There will be intermittent times where I will be able to use the internet, and when I can, I'll update my status for those of you that are curious.

I will say that PF is a great place and I always enjoy my time here.

Hopefully early next year I won't be working for a living (some might get that), but I'll certainly come back here.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or PM me. I'll be around (spotty) for the next couple weeks and should be available to chat.

    Enjoy your holidays,

    -Bert

Good ol Ga. Fort Benning. Last time I was there was during Viet Nam visiting a injured cousin coming back from Nam. I was heavy with child with my first. She is now 49 yo.
Take care and be safe. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know if you need anything. A good place to join is ........click on ' where to send '

Thanks for the website, btw. My unit was local in Mass and we used a Boston organization (mainly geared toward Marines, but they snuck us in there) who sent care packages during deployments.

This seems to be a higher scale org.

The bar will always be with you in spirit.
If you are lost in the woods just stop and think, what would the guys in the bar say to do. Then, don't do that. lol

Stay safe, ArmySoldier. Thanks for your service. Its appreciated.

You'll be missed, AS, and my best wishes for the future.

Actually your thread title reminded me of when I was one of a class which had been on an advanced teleprinter keyboard training course for Cable & Wireless. It was on our first post-training day at the C&W HQ (Electra House, on the Thames Embankment), and was to be followed by two weeks of 'sitting in' experience. So as our instructor had done his job, and was only with us to 'throw us into the lions den' he said, 'You'll be seeing less of me from now on.', to which one of my class members said, 'Why, are you shrinking?' lol

So best of luck, and I hope you get lots of promotions!

Not only radio silent, but Internet and gadget free too.

You will be married to a weapon of iron and wood (actually now it's iron and plastic) and you will be faithful !!

    Excellent advice !!

If someone can continue to view the training as "fun" and strive for a personal best then that makes the time fly faster.

A big part of the officer training program is peer evaluations.

The only way to succeed on peer evaluations is to be humble on the one hand and also try to help out everyone else that you can on the other.

Uncle Sam is not looking for macho egomaniacs.

He is looking for team players that get along well with others.

I went on active duty at Fort Benning in 1967. John Wayne was filming the Green Berets there and the brass gave him the run of the base, I never met him, but Aldo Ray (one of his co-stars) used to hold court in the Holiday Inn bar on Victory Drive every night after filming was finished.
