I am in a mixed race family, black and white. Some of my grandkids look black, you would not expect any white ancestry.

The kids don't have a problem with being around black, white, asian people. They just don't care.

The only time we have had race come up as an issue was when adults stuck their noses into it and tried to teach racism to the kids.

The worst was when one of the kids learned some BLM BS from the Disney channel, she started seeing racism where there was no racism. We put a stop to that very quickly and then banned all Disney from the house.

^ None of those values are particularly American. Those values exist where the vast majority of these people come from , often even moreso.

I wonder how much racism that sort of "anti-racist" messaging has created, and if it outweighs any good it does.

Imagine if a website said this.... we have to realize the racists on both sides are trying to divide us, cause a race war - really does sound like something white nationalists or the kkk would say if you reverse that races in the article

    https://arrow-journal.org/why-peopl...8M3Hy-6JkrVZE8d7TWy9GjsNTOOT2xXALTYgeao46wp58

"White People need their own spaces. White people need their own spaces. We need places in which we can gather and be free from the mainstream stereotypes and marginalization that permeate every other societal space we occupy. We need spaces where we can be our authentic selves without black people’s judgment and insecurity muzzling that expression. We need spaces where we can simply be—where we can get off the treadmill of making black people comfortable and finally realize just how tired we are."

    A duck and dodge
(This is from another thread using the same quote).....African Americans have always had their "safe spaces" in Black churches, fraternities, clubs, bars, barbershops, hair salons....where they can be Black, free of judgement.
I remember, in college, I was watching TV with a Black friend when Sanford and Son came on. After a bit he became uncomfortable and I could tell he was embarrassed and he asked to turn the channel. I doubt a white watching Hee Haw with a Black would be embarrassed by dumb white people on TV. I believe the reason is, African Americans have gotten the message that their culture is not as good as the dominant culture and feel constantly judged inferior by the dominant culture especially if they use Black vernacular, ect.
As I've noted before conservatives have an empathy deficit.

Not an issue of good culture or bad culture. Or better culture. As I've said several times many immigrants have successfully integrated into the predominant culture while maintaining their individual cultures as well.
You need to grasp that empathic doesn't mean granting favors and misplaced sympathy.

Nor does it mean looking down on people as perpetual victims, expecting less accountability, maturity or capability from them because of their skin tone.

My dark skin doesn't make me lesser than, regardless of what white nationalists say, and regardless of what regressive "progressive" racist "anti-racists" say.

I would rather have basic respect than empathy.

Let me give you an example.

One Southern city built it's transit system around the Black area. Only a few buses go in and out, and all the jobs are outside.

    Respect won't get you out.

Actually, it's nearly impossible to escape poverty these days. That used to happen all the time, but not matter the skin, it doesn't happen much now.

Now that Republicans dance for White Supremacists, they want to bring the good 'ol days back..

Empathy means understanding another's point of view, which is difficult for many on here.

yes, many can't see that this is just as wrong as whites asking for a safe place all their own from blacks - they are exactly the same if the races are reversed

Poverty thing or race thing? Or both?

It will if it means taking you as seriously and giving you equal treatment to others. Not to do so is disrespectful, regardless of your race, gender, sexual orientation, height, or anything else.

And let's not equate poverty to race. Let's not use one as proxy for the other. That's how we get police pulling over black people driving nice cars, suspecting theft.

And racist "anti-racists" feed directly into their power. Without them, these White Supremacists would still be fringe and most Republicans would not want to be anywhere near them, by simple politics.

I think I see the problem here.

People thinking they are feeling empathy and understanding the "points of view" of groups of people, be they racial minorities, trans, or whatever, as if these many individuals with diverse views are instead monoliths holding the views guilt ridden white people assign to them.

It's bigotry, and they can't recognize that. If you want to have ACTUAL empathy, then listen to individuals and don't generalize by race etc. Often here on this very board I have come across a white person telling a not-white person what not-white people think.

You read #258? Many Blacks feel, because their culture is not valued by the wider society, that they are judged inferior when they "act Black" and need a place to go to be themselves. Whites do not have that problem.
Interesting, what is your explanation why many African Americans want to go to a "safe space" to relax? Are they all just racists?

I'm still trying to figure out who is demanding Americanism mutate to suit their particular flavor of Americanism?

If they equate safe space to absence of any white people, then yes. Absolutely.

It's not a problem - other cultures maintain their cultural unity away from mainstream and are still able to participate in mainline society.
I have no idea. That's on them.

You've missed the entire CRT issue?

I read on my phone so I don't see post numbers.

But it isn't a lack or empathy to recognize racial prejudice for what it is.

Equating White Person with Racism is indeed very racist, and experiencing racism at the hands of white people isn't an excuse for such racism.

Its also very racist to equate Black Person with the equating of racism with White Person.

How about we instead recognize people, white, black or plaid, as individuals, and not declare White People this or Black People that?

How about we hold each individual responsible for their own actions, bigotries, etc, and not make excuses for them based on their races?

While we're at it, lets do the same regarding gender, sexuality, and other immutable characteristics of people?

So you say POC seeking “safe places” are racists. There could not be another reason (which I gave you)? Those unable to understand the actions of others from the others point of view, good or bad, lack empathy.

Let’s quote from the Lil Mikey's opinion piece he quoted.....POC need places to "gather and be free from the mainstream stereotypes and marginalization"..."where we can be our authentic selves without white people’s judgment and insecurity muzzling that expression"....."where we can get off the treadmill of making white people comfortable"..."We can reclaim parts of ourselves that have been repressed"....."We can redefine ourselves and support one another in embracing who we are"

What does that tell you? That POC that want "safe spaces" are racist or that they feel insecure and judged when they act "Black" in the larger society and need space to decompress. It does make it sound like an entire culture has an inferiority complex, but where do you think that came from? Maybe 150 years of segregation and open racism by whites changes a culture.

Do you mean the issue where right-wingers don't like certain important episodes in history taught in schools?
