President Trump is still underwater with registered independents in the latest Gallup poll, netting just a 46 percent job approval among this key voting bloc. However, there is an even more important voting group that is currently trending away from Trump — America’s seniors.

Despite being a “senior citizen” himself, many Americans in the president’s age group have recently soured on him, especially in light of his administration’s response to COVID-19. Back in mid-March, Americans over 65 years old “approved of Trump’s handling of the outbreak at a higher rate than any other age group,” according to Morning Consult. Just a month later, that specific COVID-19 response approval rating dropped 20 points and is now lower than any other age group, except for 18 to 29-year-olds.

    [...]

Back in 2016, then-candidate Trump won the senior vote over Secretary Hillary Clinton by more than seven percentage points. That point spread, more than anything — especially when you consider the median age in key battleground states like Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — delivered Trump his electoral victory.

Four years later, Trump is facing a general election against a much different opponent than four years earlier. According to multiple Democratic and Republican strategists polled by Annie Karni and Maggie Haberman in the New York Times, older voters view former Vice President Joe Biden as an “appealing alternative” to Trump. Recent polling indicates that the former vice president now holds a 10-point advantage over Trump with older American voters.

By a 6-to-1 margin in that same survey, older Americans say that government should prioritize the coronavirus health response and mitigation of the virus above the economic focus.

Anyway, no matter where you look, things are going badly for Trump.

With the exception of the solid core of Republicans, which is 35% of the vote, polls are devastating in all age groups.

There's even a shift in the vote towards Biden among the 35-44 year old, white, collegiate voters.

Why? Did the democratic governors send enough infected elderly people back to nursing homes to kill enough off to swing the vote? Wonder how the rest of the public will think with 4-8 months of the state being locked down by governor fiat orders like in MI.

Deflection...Seniors are not happy with the way President Trump handled the pandemic. They can also be unhappy with their governor. They can vote against both if necessary.

Democrats killed a lot of seniors so I think they will vote overwhelmingly Republican.

Do you think Democrats sent Coronavirus patients to nursing homes on accident or did they do it to make Coronavirusas bad as possible?

Threads like this are a sign Democrat internal polls show they are hurting with seniors so they try to push a "Democrats are pro seniors" narrative.

Trying to save the life of seniors should not mean "Democrats are pro seniors". I remember when saving lives was a non-partisan issue.

I doubt it. The news is pouring in that dem Govs have created mandates forcing retirement homes to take in sick people...Michigan’s Gov just signed one May 20.

dems Govs have used the Chinese virus and retirement homes as modern gas chambers to take out normal GOP voters

What idiotic talking point are Hannity and Tucker Carlson telling you guys to mindlessly repeat now?

Over a third of all dead here in Florida have been nursing home patients and staff. And our governor is Trump's favorite lapdog.

    Yeah.

    A third of 2000.

Not a third of 40,000 like NY.

5300 dead in NY in nursing homes. That's way less than one third of 40,000

Isn't it time you started looking for a new source for news? Whatever you're using now is only making Republicans look silly

So just 2 and a half times the death rate in the entire state of FL.

I'm sure NY nursing home dwellers prefer NY to FL since it's less than a third of the 40,000 deaths.

Thats only because they keep lying about the numbers.

that was their homes, where should they have sent them, the White house?

it seems nursing homes are not even prepared to handle the common flu, they should have areas designated to separate the sick, let's hope this is address by new regulations - as many Nursing homes are not gonna do this unless required too

where do you think the States should have put 40k people with mild to no symptoms if not send them back home, hospitals did not have the space for them

the nursing homes should have kept them separate from others when they returned from the doctors visit

hopefully Trump will address this, maybe a bill funding nursing homes to help them prepare for future pandemics

And it could have been less if our idiot governor hadn't been listening to Trump.
Do they? They don't go that far here in Florida. They just fire the person who does the counting.

    https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article242851256.html

So at least, according to your article, they corrected the data. Here in Florida... who knows.... Numbers now come straight from the Governor's ass.

yep, would have been nice had Trump or the Governors thought of setting up some place for them, lets hope Trump addresses that before a wave 2

no one really considered housing all the people with no systems or very mild symptoms, but something to consider going forward

next time we need to set up huge quarantine wards for the elderly, Trump better get on that, as that is gonna take a lot of pre-building

Let me suggest not into nursing homes.

If only we had had alternate sites set up that could have been used.

The dumbness is burning my brain.
