    What would it take?

I just wrote a seven digit number on an envelope next to my computer. Anyone here who talks to God get this number from him and post this seven digit number in a reply back to me and I will consider that proof of God.

But... on at least some occasions it seems to have led to a pretty shocking surge in IQ that could reminds us of some experiments conducted during the 1960's on certain substances.

You probably know the type of research I am referring to don't you?

Near death experiencer Kevin Zadai claims to have met with Jesus during his forty five minute out of the body experience and brush with death back in 1992............ and....... his lectures are some of the most interesting and compelling and encouraging that I have ever taken the time to listen to.

The first forty five minutes of this video are music and worship that you may want to skip..... .but..... if you know who I mean by Loreena McKennitt...... you may wish to give them a listen...... This woman's voice is astonishing....... and reminds me of Ms. Loreena McKennitt.....

but the actual lecture begins at the forty five minute mark......

Look, C'mon, willya, Near Death experiences are all dreams. They're constructed like dreams, they look like dreams, they act like dreams. They're dreams.

Dreams can be pretty, dreams can be vivid, dreams can be involved and dreams can and do change people's lives but they're still just dreams; just a vivid, inchoate rehashing of the day's events mixed in with old memories and reconstructed into a coherent narrative at the moment of coming to full wakefulness. nothing more.

I'm sorry, I killed a moth that was on my wrist when I awakened from a vivid dream just now and I feel bad for my sudden action. It was just a harmless creature resting momentarily and the Chinese say that insects landing on us as we sleep bring dreams both vivid and instructive, poor payment on my part if it did

You speak constantly of other people's near-death experiences but I forget, have you ever had one of your own?

Not exactly..... but reading near death experience accounts led to my splitting from the Worldwide Church of God back in 1991..... That church had been an extremely important part of my life from my early teens until I was thirty one years of age.

My old church was so into the Soul Sleep Theory that when I finally saw powerful evidence that this doctrine was wrong..... I was motivated to study and study and study that information that caused me to look at the meaning of so many scriptures in the Jewish and Christian Bibles very differently.

There are lots of "studies" on stuff like this.

The primary problem is that scientists can't use normal scientific controls for very strong issues related to ethics in studying humans. That makes it very hard to create tests that could possibly be considered determinative.

This is one of the problems with any of the social sciences. It's one of the reasons that results of sudies in these "soft scieces" get questioned and reversed at a fairly high rate.

In this case, you can't take a group of people to "brain death" and back to see what happens.

These claims tend to come from those who had a significant agenda to start with, and whose results could not possibly be meaningfully duplicated - as is required in science.

Also, the measurement of IQ is also frought.

Yes, the human circulatory system is not built to withstand being subjected to high g. The human body can produce only limited blood pressure, which may not be enough for sufficient blood to reach the brain. The brain then starts failing. You can actually WATCH your brain start to fail. Even private pilots in small airplanes have to be aware of this issue, as the same problem exists simply by flying high enough and not having a pressurized cabin or oxygen equipment. You do NOT have to experience high g conditions.

So, pilots are taught tests to determine if they are starting to become oxygen deprived. Without enough oxygen, you may think you are fine, but the brain is failing enough that you fail these tests. Flying with an oxygen deprived brain is a terrible idea, obviously, as decision making starts failing and perceptions of what is going on can start not matching reality.

In the past, I've pointed out that humans dream when unconscious due to being asleep. And, those dreams may draw on the beliefs and experiences of the individual.

Why isn't sleep described as a near death experience?

Don't the claims of parapsychology actually focus on people who have been considered medically dead? Being unconscious does not meet that requirement.

I think you are going into a whole new level when you decide that "near death" is any state where consciousness is lost in any way - even simply sleeping. I seem to reember you pushing back when I mention dreams as an example of brains producing images related to ones experiences and beliefs - including religious beliefs.

A sleeping person can have brains providing crazy images and stories that clearly relate to ones experiences and beliefs.

But, then a brain is subject to even worse conditions (including receiving the messages of failing organs including sensory organs as well as having sections of the brain receiving too little oxygen to work properly) you want to claim that is a BETTER representation of reality!!

And, I choose to believe that the brain is failing as is absolutely what would be expected.
