They did not seek asylum in Mexico. That they did not, of itself, does not render them economic migrants. Asylum seekers are not illegal immigrants. Those people in the back of a lorry likely are.

 

If it was sepsis, that's some serious **** that you don't mess around with. This time last year I was about half way through a 4+ month long ICU stay for that very thing, where not only did I almost die, I DID die, but was revived. Statistically, I should probably be dead right now, and though I can no longer stand or walk, I can fortunately breathe and type. That's on the parent/guardian/sex trafficker who was her guardian.

 

Completely disagree, which I suppose we always will. One relinquishes asylum status if they want to choose where they want to claim asylum. They are both illegal and economic migrants.

I'm fairly certain that those are the rules as they presently exist. No changes are necessary, just enforcing the existing laws/procedures. Except maybe #2.

 

Actually, 80-90% of asylum claims are denied, which means they are exactly that. Whether or not it's innocent insofar as they've been misled about what does and does not qualify, or intentional is of no consequence. And that doesn't even begin to touch the ones who claim asylum, are released into the country, and then just disappear into the night, never to be heard from again. Until they kill someone, anyway.

Her family sneaked across the border in a desert region. They should go to a legal crossing point and declare asylum if they truly want asylum. If it weren't for US border patrol, the girl would have died sooner. The girl was near death when they were rescued by border patrol. This is child abuse by the parents. What was the girl's condition when she entered Mexico? She was allowed into Mexico. Why are they not responsible for the girl? How much closer was the American consulate in Mexico? Could the girl have made it there alive? We are not responsible for someone who sneaks into our deserts. Blame the coyotes who smuggled them. BUILD THE WALL!

We only know her temperature was that when she was sent to the hospital. This case depends on the conditions after she was detained and the true timeline.
