This statement is completely unfounded in reality. Emerson didn't slip up. You misconstrued what he was talking about and now you have to believe that he's trying to deceive you because your position is untenable. The only evidence of this supposed deceit is that he clearly does not support your belief. Not only is it illogical to think that he's in on the deceit, it's typical of someone who's belief is so weak that it requires imagining large numbers of people actively trying to suppress the belief in order to conjure up evidence in support of the belief.
