    The Arctic is becoming greener and more lush, revealed recent satellite images of Alaska’s Yukon Delta, and it’s very bad news for the polar region and beyond.

    The images, captured by the US Geological Survey’s (USGS) Landsat 8 satellite on 29 May, showed extensive greenery in former tundra conditions - yet further evidence of global temperature rise.

    And as the permafrost melts, more greenhouse gases are released. This is going to create a snowball effect, ironically enough, and it will have repercussions for weather at the mid-latitudes in the near term, as it indeed already has. It has become more variable, and we have seen the effects in the massive wildfires and the smoke they have sent thousands of miles eastward. We also see the changes in these crazy cold snaps in winter, I believe. But the worst thing is the continuing loss of ice and the associated rise in sea levels, at least as far as our civilization is concerned. The loss of arctic species to the changing habitat is also a shame.

    I guess Canada should build a wall to keep those pesky Americans from crashing their border.

    I don't see what all the fuss is about. The Sun will turn into a Super-giant Star someday and consume the Earth and everything on it; none of this will matter a hill of very well-done beans. It seems counter-productive to worry about things that the entire population of the Earth is never going to agree to.

    Maybe in 5 billion years and meanwhile back on Earth we need to take better care of the planet since it's the ONLY place 7+ billion humans can exist and thrive...

    Greenland used to be green. Will you start a thread when the snow there is no more and it becomes green again?

    How do you know Alaska was not green at some point in earth's history?

    2.5 million year ago.

    It was long before humans existed.

    We are releasing the carbon that once made the planet much warmer - before human life was possible.

    Well, according to the trends in your chat, we still have a few million years to go before Earth loses its polar ice caps. Humans have been around for approximately .0004 percent of the chart's timeline - that's a tiny little sliver on the extreme right of the chart...

    I'm not going back to living in a cave so a few hippies, and John Kerry, can feel good.

    Every time this sort of discussion comes up I ask the following:

    1. What is the current CO2 level;
    2. What is the highest ever CO2 level;
    3. What is the optimal CO2 level for plant growth;
    4. What is the minimal CO2 level needed for plant growth?

    Sometimes I get an answer for #1 but never the other questions. My conclusion is most of the global warming crowd/liberals don't really know much about plant science and many are totally ignorant about the Carbon cycle which I learned about in 7th grade science class. I will say that many of the neo-hippies do grasp that they should use CO2 generators in their grow tents.

    To a large degree the global warming, wear a mask, crowd are part of a religious cult. The religion of worshiping big government.

    That “green” is natures way of consuming excess carbon dioxide. If you keep screwing around with natural cycles you are going to create an ice age. It was not that long ago ice sheets and woolly mammoths were in the northern territories.

    BTW, what do you want to change the climate too?

    Don’t worry. We are in a 2.5 million year old ice age. We are currently in a mild inter-glacial period that is nearing its end. Buckle up for another glacial period where NYC was once under a mile thick ice sheet.

    Anything that negatively effects humans, the root causes of these issues, there must be a public dialogue to understand the cause and effects and put in place whatever mitigation humans can muster. Ignoring all that is happening is not an option...

    But we need a dome over the USA so we can be protected from the effects of other countries.
    After all, we and all other critters are all only temporary residents of earth.

    "The Arctic is becoming greener and more lush" why is this bad? 'Greener' and 'lush' indicate increased plant growth, correct? Plants reduce carbon, btw.

    I had difficulty getting to see the whole article and, so, the satellite images, if they were included/linked-- any chance of your posting them?

    Nevertheless, these signposts, along our self-destructive path, do not get the wider attention that they deserve, so good on you, for posting this.

    But not nearly compensatory to, in the Arctic Circle, the amount of light, & hence, heat, from the sun that gets reflected away from Earth, at the poles, by the white of snow.

    If all the effects of global climate change come to fruition, a dome over the US won't help much. I suspect there is no running from climate change or any protections in a regional area...it's a global issue in which ALL of us fail or succeed...together. Seems to me any attempt to mitigate climate change must be done proactively because once we hit the tipping points we just become spectators. Since the collective we don't do anything proactively, there are going to be some rough times ahead...

    We could adjust Earth’s orbit just a tad, and tilt the poles a little until we in the USA are happy.

    It's inevitable that when we have 7+ billion humans, plus how many animals, plus all of our by-products, and how we alter Earth's surface, all in a closed system, that we are pushing the systems beyond their ability to function. And since all of it is tied together, working in relative harmony, and we upset this fragile yet critical balance, we then have the Domino effect. Be careful messing with Mother Nature...

    Then why are we fighting Covid, not to mention natures other attempts to control the environment?
    How are you capturing and mitigating your own personal CO2 output?
    It’s all “We need to”, “You need to”. Where is the “I need to”?
    The only ones in the USA even close to practicing what you preach are the homeless.
