A better question is why shouldn't it be? Women have a right to their own bodies. Take away that right and it's slavery. Why should slavery be legal ? Why should pregnant women lose the right to their own bodies?
I think Ireland’s experience us relevant. Abortion was not just illegal but medical staff lived under a very real threat of losing thier licences if they intervened even when the woman’s life was endangered. This is why Savita Hallappanavar died. Even though she was critically ill the medical staff feared intervening because of retribution. We will see a lot more women dying like Savita did under laws such as those Alabama just introduced. It is not only about the law it is also about whether medical staff are willing to face the backlash for doing the right thing. An essay from an MD caught in the nightmare https://www.indy100.com/article/us-...-skull-myth-of-choice-annals-medicine-8961746 Women WILL go elsewhere - that has already been seen in states with “foetal assault” laws where women addicted to drugs simply did not seek ante natal care and had babies at home. It will also affect medical staff who will choose not to work under threat and will simply seek employment elsewhere
I see someone voted for the last option: """The fetus of a woman who had consensual sex is precious life and needs to be protected (the woman needs to be punished for having consensual sex and must be FORCED to gestate) but if a woman is raped ( not consensual sex so she isn't an evil slut) her fetus is garbage and can be aborted...""" I wonder when Anti-Choicers will ever notice that FORCING women to use their body against their will as a rapist does is so like FORCING women to use their body to gestate as Anti-Choicers want to do.
When me and the ex-wife had kids and you looked at what you made when they were asleep in their cot, I could never condone abortion. I know the crap arguement is about rape and incest and all that rubbish but the overwhelmingly number of unwanted pregnancies are due to not being responsible. If you can't act responsibly, I suggest you get your testicles detached (male) or a hysterectomy (female).
Rape and incest are "rubbish" ? The right to one's own body is not "rubbish". You enjoy having the right to your own body, why do you wish to take that right away from others making them slaves? The millions and millions of women who have had abortions over the last thousands of years were not irresponsible ( but misogyny noted). They were simply the humans who got pregnant. If you think they were irresponsible why would you want them to have kids? I think it's very responsible to abort a pregnancy when one doesn't want, or can't afford, a kid.. It is easy to speak when one will never experience an unwanted pregnancy that will alter your life and your body forever. .

BTW, WHO TF is arguing FOR rape and incest???? WHA....????
And the vast majority of late term abortions are for foetal abnormality incompatible with life. Obvioulsy you did not read my earlier post
