I have. Many Christians believe that freedom of religion ultimatley means, freedom to choose which Christian religion you belong to.

And yes, I believe that most people would say no to this poll. But Some few would most certainly say yes.

Even though I'm a Christian, I would never support the unconstitutional imposition of "an official religion" in the United States. A person's religious beliefs should be entirely PERSONAL and not installed in some "official" capacity in the government.

No, of course not. We have freedom of religion here, and that includes not only allowing for free religious thoughts, actions and communication, but also means that the government cannot support any single religion.7

Should Christianity be declared the official religion of America?
Absolutely not. I believe America was the first nation in history to publicly commit to having NO STATE religion force-ably inflicted onto its citizens, which was a very big deal. We need to honor & preserve that heritage & valued human right.

While i agree with this, i think this is an area we all need to work on on a personal level.
We need to tolerate one anothers religions.
No one should have to hide their religion.
The freedom of or from religion doesn't give you a right not to encounter other people actively practicing their religion. It just means government cannot compel religion on you.
We all need to choose not to be offended when we encounter other people practicing their religions. We are all made better by encountering other ways of believing.

I have listened to a lot of Christoph Hitchens, i completely disagree with him, but i enjoy hearing how his mind works. I think he is dead wrong but i am better for having listened to his views.

You make perfectly reasonable, sensible points, but there is one "fly in the ointment" -- Islam.

Countless posts have been written here in the Forum all about how all of the world's major religions have had very violent, bloody periods in their past. Christianity, Judiaism, and even major religions that have reputations today as being so ultra-peaceful, like Buddhism and Hinduism, did indeed have very violent pasts characterized by frequent internecine warfare, as well as outright persecution unto death for those with different religious beliefs and practices. Fortunately, all of that came to an end several hundred years ago for all of them -- EXCEPT ISLAM.

The 'holy book' of Islam, the Quran, tells Muslims how they must conduct themselves, and what their attitudes and behaviors MUST be regarding all persons which Islam considers to be "Infidels"... and the Mullahs, Imams, and others of the various Muslim "priesthoods" continue to preach the same messages of hatred, violence, abuse, and death for all "Infidels" -- today, NOW, in the 21st-century!

We hear repetitively about "peaceful Islam" from its message-spinners and other 'apologists', but HERE is what every 'Infidel' should learn and remember about this "peaceful" religion: https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/pages/quran/violence.aspx

Hint: why is it that in every country where Muslims concentrate in large numbers there is inevitably continual efforts to replace a country's legal structure and foundations of government with SHARIA LAW...? Islam is thus a serious threat to the very principles of justice and tolerance that civilization has labored hard to adopt for centuries! Today, in the 21st-century, Islam is a menace, and it should be fundamentally changed to remove the obsession with persecution of those with different beliefs, or, be expunged from human experience....

The only offense I ever run into is Christians offended I am an atheist and do not subscribe to their religious faith and that they cannot inject their religious faith into our government.

I am not offended by atheists. Yes they can inject their faith in government. They must represent the communities that elected them. What they cannot do is make laws regulating or perscribing a religion.

It doesn't matter what some people believe. What matters is the text of the first amendment.

That may mean the poll and thread was perceived as so stupid that it wasn't worth a click.

None in particular I'm just saying they cannot do it.

They can however use their religious convictions to make decisions about how to vote.

Congress shall make no law. That is the prohibition.
There is nothing wrong with a public memorial with religious symbols. Unless it requires Congress to make a law.
A cross on a war memorial is not an establishment of religion.

The key words are bolded above. You DON'T have the right to display religious slogans & monuments on PUBLIC property.

I dont disagree with you. Although there is no implicit language that separates church and state anywhere in the constitution or the bill of rights. Seperation of Church and State is a fairly recent thing in terms of Americas history. Thankfully the courts have interpreted the law that way.

Again, I believe in a strict separation myself.

I'd say because congress can pass no law that it would be unconstitutional to prevent a community from such a momument.
