What is the US population? 325 million. 7.7% of the populalation lives in poverty. That seems quite a lot for a first world country with the biggest GDP in the world.

    7.7% of 325mm is 25mm

Yeah it does consider we put out all this money, that's just the government. It doesn't even include what the charities in the country are giving to the poor.

    I.. Me...I...Me...I...Me

I'm not asking about your individual situation. I can fend for myself well. And I can even pay for my stitches. That doesn't mean that the mentally challenged/ emotionally disturbed / etc. individual can. When I asked if you want to get rid of the following programs (Food Stamps? Unemployment Compensation? Medicaid? Social Security?), you said YES. Do you care if people are starving in the US? Do you care if they can't get medical treatment?

So my question is "Do you care about others?".

I followed this link, and yes, I agree, that's a lot of money. However, you are offering no analysis of any of the specific programs themselves. There is a difference between poverty and starvation. There is a difference between poverty and mental illness. Typically, we don't let citizens of the US starve in this country. If their income is below a threshold, which varies by state, and is well above the minimum wage, they are eligible for food stamps.

You have every right to complain and rant about the money spent, but offering specific solutions is a better use of everybody's time.

Can I ask, You do understand that businesses pay State, & Federal unemployment insurance taxes which fund the payment of unemployment to those who lose their jobs right?

Absolutely yes. Every government should help the poor.
Rich people can help themselves with their money.
Poor people don't have this privilege :(

You want a solution? Offer welfare the to old and the disabled. Remove welfare from the poor and able. We don't need to be subsiding their lifestyle.

The states administer these programs. I suggest you write your suggestion to your Governor.

Yes, but you are talking about the poor. And I assume that you advocating that many of them are fraudulently collecting welfare. A single person is eligible for food stamps with an income of between $20-22K per year, depending on the state. The minimum wage, multiplied out, is about $14K. Gee, you wonder why there are so many on food stamps? Has it occurred to you, that this is the exact scenario that the powerful Political Oligarchs desire. They can then use their financed network, FOX News, to blame the "entitlement party". It's all about getting votes that support their agenda.

Who is over the age of 20 working minimum wage? Anyone with 4-5 years showing up on time should have no problem landing a job making 12-15 an hour. That's the truth. Graduate H.S. and don't have kids until you can afford them. Everyone who isn't disabled or old is fraudulently collecting welfare. There is no system keeping them down. There is no evidence of unfairness to show.

Yes, but over 30% of Americans, age 18 and older, make less than $10.10 per hour. It's all about votes for the wealthy oligarch agenda.

    http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tan...han-minimum-wage-but-less-than-10-10-an-hour/

After analyzing public-use microdata for 2013 from the Current Population Survey (the same monthly survey that underpins the BLS’s wage and employment reports), we estimate that last year about 20.6 million people — 30% of all hourly, non-self-employed workers 18 and older — are in that “near-minimum-wage” category

Forget the fact that Hilary is a liar, criminal and possibly committed treason. Don't forget the fact that our embassy was attacked and our ambassador was killed under her watch without her lifting a finger to help. Maybe they voted for Trump because to vote for Hilary was to continue Obama's legacy and they wanted the nation to go in a different direction.

We aren't talking about what I do for others or what you do for others....we're discussing what government confiscates from us to spend as they see fit. You collectivist type just don't get it do you. You aren't telling me anything about your individual situation. Of course you can fend for yourself. You are for massive government.

If you look back over this thread, never did I advocate raising the minimum wage. I said this - "Has it occurred to you, that this (minimum wage levels well below food stamp qualification levels) is the exact scenario that the powerful Political Oligarchs desire. They can then use their financed network, FOX News, to blame the "entitlement party". It's all about getting votes that support their agenda."
