I just saw an investment advertisement for “NanoCrystal Electricity”. I have no idea what this is, except it makes power cords obsolete.

I've seen a similar plan from Nikola Tesla. He had the idea of towers that generate an electric field and devices could take the energy from the air.

It gave me the idea that electricity should be free to use and be paid for with local taxes to fund power utilities to generate NanoCrystal Electricity.

"Free" energy??? What could go wrong??? Should the power grid be socialized???

Tesla was half crazy. There is not enough energy in the atmosphere for domestic use.

Too bad you had to bring up that craziness. The actual topic of the thread was reasonable, until you brought up Tesla's free electricity craziness.

Well, I'm assuming NanoCrystal Electricity receivers are going to be getting their energy from some transmitter that's similar to Tesla's invention. It's got to be transmitted by something across the air, but what I'm not sure.

After Tesla's patents were declassified Apple created wireless recharging technology in its iPhones. Coincidence???

And now we might have NanoCrystal Electricity. Coincidence???

Apple probably put a wireless charger in their new phones because Samsung is making an increasingly larger % of the IPhone. Wireless charging is not that new my Samsung has been doing that for years. You can even buy a Chevy pickup with a wireless charging pad built into it. I would say that Apple is just finally catching up.

Well I think the real question is now that the wireless technology is available how long before we move our entire power grid over to wireless energy, and how are we going to pay for it???

Tesla was a nutcase. he didn't even believe in radioactivity, and continued to believe in the "ether" after it was experimentally shown to be non-existent.

Anyway, the nanocrystal electricity has only asked for and is getting permissition for transmitting the electricity three feet. I sense the Emperor is not wearing any clothes......

Apple doesn't have wireless recharging technology in it's phones. Plenty of wires are involved. Yes, there is no direct connection between the phone and the charger, but the electricity is provided to the phone through a coil of wires in the charger.

It won't happen commercially. Energy losses from wireless transmission are extremely high. It's basic physics.

Not to mention that anyone within range can mooch off of the electricity. So who pays for it?

"Wireless" charging has been around for a very long time, ever since Maxwell wrote down his famous equations and people realized a varying electromagnetic field passing through a wire loop generated a current in the wire loop.

Tesla is a lot of hype.

Probably IF we can find support for pure energy.
That invention that converts surrounding electrons into electricity for pure clean energy that came out.
The one that 13 yeard old Einstein created.
If we can give him enough support, then sure, we can work for social and energy fore it will then be energy Independence and hopefully there's enough electrons for this to happen because it sounds cleaner and cheaper.

Energy is already practically free. Unless you are in a really old home your electric bill including heating and A/C is pretty low compared to a car payment, mortgage payment, hell some people pay more for their cell phone bills than they do for electricity. Think about that for a second, all the power that runs all of your tvs, stereos, vacuums, heating/AC, PCs, gaming consoles, washer and dryer, fridge and freezer for an entire month is less than your cable/internet bill and only a bit more than your family phone plan.

If a local magnetic field can provide the power necessary to operate an electric oven sans the power cord, I suggest humans will not be safe...I'm thinking insulated underwear will be required...

LOL, yes it could impact the rate of population growth.

But the field has to be varying, or the wire has to be moving through the field. That's how motors and generators work, its how a dam and wind turbine generate electricity. To power a typical stove would take a really strong field.

That's also why people worry about safety around power lines and cell phones. If you read your iPhone manual, you will find it is actually unsafe if held against your skin, and the manual says to keep it 1 cm away from your body.

So, do you carry your iPhone in your pocket near your jewels? :cynic:

The electromagnetic pulses of power lines even now is a fearful, cancer causing thing. People don't want to live under or near power lines. I can just imagine the whole atmosphere energized with that kind of heavy horsepower (746 watts per hp).

Even low wattage cell phones receiving low energy signals may be causing a cancer epidemic already.

Years ago there was confusion why so many police officers were getting testicular cancer...they pointed the radar gun at the cars then laid the gun in their laps.

All I can guess is if there's enough electricity in the air to power an electric oven, without need of a power cord, that my body will basically, and literally, become a lightning rod.

I'm also guessing that animals and humans will not do well when exposed to magnetic fields of this power...

even if it were possible, republicans would be against it, as they do not want others to have anything free, if they could get away with it they would not allow anyone to have free air or water

More idiocy that the causes and answers to all of our critical issues belongs either to the Dems or the Reps...

Air is free, but I never heard of free water unless I go out and get it in a lake, stream or mud puddle, and then disinfect it myself. But I got labor and the cost of bleach or Portable Aqua in it so it's really not free.

That is conventional magnetic electrical generation

What I gather the OP was referring to, although it was not that clear, was generation of electricity through Peizoelectric devices

Well, I'm talking about NanoCrystal Electricity. It might be unclear because I don't really know what that is either, but I saw an advertisement for investing in it. It's hard to tell what it is because all the articles I see on it link back to the original advertisement.

Personally I think that if it threatens the Gas, Oil, or Coal industries' profits that the people running the NanoCrystal Electricity company are going to be found dead very shortly and its industry will vanish from the public consciousness.
