Should the US military be allowed to provide military level services to the public?

Should the USA military be given the right to own intellectual property? Should they be given the ability to provide military level tech and services out to the countries and private companies that they choose ??? Should the military be able, at their sole discretion, to restrict the access to such technology, again, to countries that are unsafe or companies who have a bad background? Should the military be allowed to be the sole security guards and technicians to these techs and services, to keep them out of enemy hands? Should the military be allowed to charge for these tech services to cover the costs of operations and perhaps turn a profit??

I think they should.

I don't think the military should be involved in foreign policy. It is up to the State Dept. to decide what technology transfers are appropriate.

 

Overall, you're talking about elevating the military to the level of acting as government for profit. Absolutely not! What a ridiculous idea. The military is not elected and so we have no control over military if they are given such powers.

 

But what about all the technology they have that is wasted floating around in some black budget project files???

 

It's probably created by a government contractor and sold to the military

That probably varies among classification, need to know, and other mitigating factors.

 

And who provides the employment to work the secret technology?

The point is that the military is the perfect candidate to provide secret services to the public.

I think you aren't familiar with ITAR and of DFAR.

 

Mostly true. Very little actual real Intellectual property is being developed in house in US Gov.
