And the moderators have been kind enough to create an Animal Welfare section.

I do wish you would post threads like this in the proper spot.

You are taking that just a little out of context. It should be read
"The righteous care for the needs of even their animals; but even the kindest acts of the wicked are still cruel."

It takes a lot of income just to support a horse and keep it healthy. An elephant is going to cost multiples of that.

    Kazenatsu,

It is not taking a verse out of context to quote only a part
of the verse that is needed to make the point one wishes to
    make.

Humans quote only parts of verses and parts of passages
thousands of times each day on the Internet without quoting
the entire body of work from which the passage came.

Writers and journalists world-wide do the same thing all the time.

When I quoted Proverbs 12:10's section that said: "The righteous
man cares for the needs of his animal" --- doing that was not taking
anything out of context. The Opening Post and this thread is about
Showing Compassion To Animals --- and has nothing to do with
"even the kindest acts of the wicked are still cruel" -- so there was
no need for me to include that part of the verse.

    Kazenatsu,
Looking up there at the title of this department of the Forum that
this thread is in, I see where it says Discussion In Animals And Pets.
I do wish you would explain why putting Show Compassion To Animals
does not fit this Forum department just peachy fine and dandy?

The Opening Post and this thread is on the subject of Animals and
this department of the Forum is on the subject of Animals.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

My point made in the Opening Post about the elephants
is the exact opposite of the point you are making about
the elephants. You clearly did not even read the Opening
    Post.

Here below is what I said in my Opening Post about
    elephants:

    JAG Wrote:
"I read in the newspaper, long ago, where they closed that
disgraceful Ringling Brothers Elephant Show. Good. It was
very painful for the elephants. I have read how they "trained"
the elephants to do all their tricks and performances and the
"training" involved intense pain for the elephants while they
were forced to go through their routines."___JAG

    So?

So if you read what I wrote about elephants, why did you
    reply with the following?

And what does your "You people" mean? What group of people are
    you referring to?

That is a direct contradiction. It is impossible for any hunter to

    {1} Kill "only for sport"
and at the same time be
{2{ "also planning on eating them."

"if they are only killed for sport"__Kazenatsu
    "also planning on eating them"__Kazenatsu

All of that is impossible and a direct contradiction.

    Where did that come from?
I have no remote idea what you are talking about.
But that's okay, let it forever remain a mystery.

I interpret that to mean that you agree with the Opening Post.
    Am I correct?

There's no greater feeling than taking an animal off it's feet with a long shot, quartering it, and lugging the best meat down the mountain with bones sticking out of your pack.

I thought you made some very reasonable points, Modernpaladin.
Thanks for your positive constructive contribution to the thread.

    Good point here:
"But humans are also capable of reason, empathy and
restraint. Just as the instinctual drive to reproduce doesn't
excuse rape, neither does the instinctual drive to kill excuse
    doing so wastefully."___Modernpaladin

    As an aside, this:

From The Opening Post, JAG Wrote:
My wife and I love T-bone steak but we have never ate one that
was still alive. This means that somebody killed the cow so we
could enjoy eating T-bone steaks. We eat a lot of chickens too,
but never ate a live chicken, they were all dead, so again
somebody killed them so we could enjoy eating them."___JAG

The only good chicken is the best fried chicken, but you know it's also dead,
So should we graze on prairie grass, and suck on ice instead? (Zumbato, Michael Hammond)

I absolutely hate snakes and want nothing do with them yet somehow I have enough control to not kill them. How can you knowingly kill what you know is a good snake? 2 weeks ago I had to get my self pumped up to jump down in my water pit wind save to Fox snakes. Hated every moment of it but I simply can not let animals suffer or kill needlessly. Don't know where you live and what snakes you have but if they are non venomous just get a stick and pick them up and move them away from you. I really don't understand how you can browbeat people about needlessly killing animals and then ps I kill every snake I see. Get some self control.

I never ate any grass. Ice is boring 'cause its un-tasty.
    I love dead chickens.
We had chicken pastry for dinner today.
It had dead chicken in it.
I am reasonably certain that there is at least one {1} "human" being
on the Internet somewhere out there that has eat a live chicken. I believe
this true because i think there are clearly some "humans" on the Internet
that are clinically insane. Don't you agree?

    * You're a more humane human being than I am.
    * Don't forget as you read this post that you said clearly the following:

"I absolutely hate snakes and want nothing do with
    them"___Right is the way

Its because I hate snakes. They have no legs. They slither. They are
ugly. Even if not venomous they can and will bite you. You can get sick
from their bite. They can get inside your house. They can get in your bed.

"Fox snakes" are "Rat snakes" ?
    Let them die.
    Better to KILL them. . . .LOL . .

    I make room for you.
You're far more pacifistic than I am.
I understand your point of view.
I don't carry kindness as far as you do, but that's okay.
You're one of "good guys" and I say God Bless you.

I live in a subdivision located in the middle of the woods.
That should tell you a lot --- about my views on "that which
    slithers" along on the ground aka S N A K E S

A wide variety and all dangerous.

I am sorry, but I have to kill them. It is my nature to kill snakes.
    I hate all snakes.
But I do NOT hate the people that love snakes.
I do not hate the people that like snakes.

    I know how you feel.
Humans are very difficult to understand.
    We are very complicated creatures.
I betcha there is at least one pilgrim out there that
loves Black Widow Spiders and wants to "protect them"
    from extinction.

Right is the way, I cannot help you on that one.
The only good snake is a dead snake.
That's even true for the King Snakes that
live to kill other snakes. Yeah I know! That
does not make sense. I told you we humans
    are complicated.
However, I believe that 99.5% of humanity understands
why I hate snakes -- because they hate them too.

"I absolutely hate snakes and want nothing do with
    them"___Right is the way

Most likely that is true. There are human criminals that have eaten other humans' faces off.

Yeah, that's some really un-thinkable activity to be sure.
That takes Horror to a new level.
That's above and beyond stuff like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"
and gets into "Jeffery Dahmer" territory.

No opinion on hunting. I cannot do it. I have heard horrible stories about killing for fun (no food source) or $ (can't afford to keep pets around).

I want to point out that humans are animals. I think we should show compassion to ALL animals. ;-0

Devil's Advocate - I am also afraid of snakes and other creatures/critters in the wild. What's the difference in your killing snakes because you fear them versus someone killing some other animal/reptile because of fear?

    No difference.
I have no problem with killing animals if the motive is other
than {1} killing them only for sport or {2} killing them just
for the sake of killing them -- unless somebody comes up with
some absurd motive that I have not yet heard about -- this is a
crazy 21st century and some "crazy" out there may invent a
religious motive for killing animals and say we kill them so we can
offer up some of their blood to our god "Woods & Trees." I'd be
against that -- but its impossible to debate with "crazy" -- because
    they are . . . crazy.

However regarding your point about fear . . . .

If there is a bear roaming around in your wooded neighborhood
and you cannot get the Animal Control people to remove the bear
then you have to protect your neighborhood.

I understand your point better now. Thanks for clarifying.

The ex's grandfather told us tales of putting puppies and kittens in pillow cases filled with rocks and threw them in an aquifer. He said it's because his family was unable to afford to keep so many animals. He was a nice guy but that nonchalant attitude on the topic was eye-opening.

Then there are those whose hearts and spirits are so wrought with evil that the evil they see in the actions of others is actually their own...never considering that the hearts, motivations and intentions of others may be different and not evil like their own. Nor realizing that they themselves are the ones whose hearts and spirits need adjusting. Nevertheless, they then focus on, say, condemning hunting, fixating on empathy for animals in an attempt to mitigate their own evil impulses so as to please their own tyrannical God...the one who is the author of their own inner wickedness to begin with. Which wickedness remains no matter the accusations, restrictions, and misery they spread or the colors with which they color the world. In fact, it is the source of it....slavish and cruel in the end. And utterly debilitating. Such are the radicals in every realm. There is much more to hunters and hunting than the killing of a deer. And the once royal preserve, reserved exclusively to those of title are now dispersed to us all, from the lowly to the great. Such is American liberty.
