Control information and speech, and you control society.

Or we can lobby to have laws passed against them.

IMO, the world would be a better place withoutFacebook, et. al.

No, the freedom is being able to censor what they want. You made up the part about government pressuring them.

Some make a fair case that by way of CIA, DARPA and other such organizations, the tech giants effectively work hand-in-glove with government.

I know you can read. That post makes it sound like you're in denial to some degree about the role of government and Big Tech/social media.

Perhaps I didn't read it carefully but what I saw was about a think tank, not government.

Erm the government is Trump. He is head of the government.... are we in Deep State One World Gubmint Conspiracy territory here?

What we are seeing is so called republicans who claim to believe in freedom saying that the government should actually regulate these platforms and tell them what is and what is not permissible.

So an entrepreneur who creates a media platform, a brand new concept at the time, and manages to monetise it and build it into a successful business now has to do what he is told by the gubmint because he wants to run it a certain way that the gubmint don't like.

And that's supposed to be freedom? Sounds like China to me.

If right-wingers don't like Facebook/ Twitter etc. they should set their own up.

I wonder if it is libellous to accuse Pennsylvanian poll workers of fraud? Facebook's dilemma must be "if we have to ban some Republican speech we might have to ban all of it, as it is 90% fabricated lies and libel".

It's not libel if it is true.

Those are great points and this builds on them.

SAVE THE CONSTITUTION FROM BIG TECH:
Big Tech is coordinating with the Elected Left to do the deeds that are unconstitutional for the Elected Left to do. Norwood v. Harrison is SCOTUS saying no to that.

Justices have long held that the provision of such immunity (section 230) can turn private action into state action. In Railway Employees’ Department v. Hanson (1956), they found state action in private union-employer closed-shop agreements—which force all employees to join the union—because Congress had passed a statute immunizing such agreements from liability under state law.

In Skinner v. Railway Labor Executives Association(1989), the court again found state action in private-party conduct—drug tests for company employees—because federal regulations immunized railroads from liability if they conducted those tests.
Section 230 is the carrot, and there’s also a stick:
Way to go Fat Jerry, your comments will be part of the Court Record.
Thank you Blumey - you provide a nice sound byte that illustrates the law violation
    That's right.
Either Section 230 or congressional pressure alone might be sufficient to create state action. The combination surely is.
Oh yeah, they would be howling and shrieking and filing suits, something the Right has to get better at.

I agree it's a much more straightforward issue for the left. Since when has the left ever been okay with corporations doing stuff like this.

And to my conservative/libertarian allies - what are you doing!

It's like we all switched our views on this issue.

I didn't change my views. I would stop patronizing these companies if I had ever patronized them in the first place. That is how the free market works. When companies do what people like, the people engage and the businesses thrive. When they don't they fail. We will find out what the people really think.

~ And this is the point many are missing. Government should not protect these private business platforms.

And don't think this trend of censorship is going to stop and end with just conservatives.

If history has taught us anything, after conservatives are out of the way and no longer seen as a big problem, various different factions on the Left will begin turning on themselves.
