Okay, listen up NRA <Mod Edit> and republican/conservative wonks. To prevent shootings like what recently happened in Florida, you do the following:

    1. Reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban. Had this been in place, Cruz would NOT have had an AR-15 in his possession.
    2. Treat ALL weapons like an automobile. This means that they have to be licensed and registered, and the owner has to pass a written and physical competency test. This will severely cut down on the trafficking of illegal gun sales and greatly assist in the tracking of guns used in a crime.

    Got that?

What about the millions of guns already in circulation?

I think you forgot about those.

Okay, now listen up anti-Constitution gun-grabbing tools of Democrat vote pandering agenda.

That ban was Unconstitutional and there is nothing more to be said about that.

How would the creation of this massive federal bureaucracy will stop "trafficking of illegal gun sales"? - by definition trafficking exists outside of lawful commerce so this makes no sense at all.

^What specific mechanism, that is currently lacking, would stop that and how would you fold it into whatever initiative you're envisioning?

^^How would it assist tracking of guns used in crimes if serial numbers (I assume that's what you're referring to) can be removed or distorted?

How many hundreds of billions (potentially more) are you prepared to spend to make sure that transactions are processed swiftly (not doing so is a right infringement; court ruling)?

How many hundreds of billions (potentially more) are you prepared to spend to make sure that testing centers are located within acceptable distances of every American (not doing so would be right infringement; think polling places)?

How would you impose this program on person-to-person sales? What if I just don't register?

What will you do about the 300+ million guns already in civilian hands?

I've got more questions but I want to see if you're going to answer any of these.

How many of these mass shooters have had the weapons they used to slaughter their victims for a long period of time? Just curious if you knew, because I don't.

I'm going to guess the majority of these ass hats who commit these terrible mass shootings don't sit on their guns for a number of years before they decide to murder a large group of people.

What's your solution? Nothing? Because that isn't working.

So basically, you prefer nothing done. As we can all see, your solution is not working.

The guy posted radically insane ideas and didn't demonstrate how they would be effective.

    I can do that too.

How about in order to prevent school shootings we shut down all schools?

Oh, whats that? ...you don't want to do that?

Oh "so basically you prefer nothing done".

It is NOT the gun. It is the toxic society that we have allowed to take hold of our country. Course it is easier to place blame on anything other than ourselves...

stop and think: if you do not have a weapon that makes it easier to kill numerous people quickly and accurately, then those members of our "toxic society" that go off the deep end will find it more difficult to do so (if not hopefully be discouraged).

They'll pick up knives, or drive cars, or use poisons, or make explosives.

Liberals didn't go on a "ban pressure cookers" rant after the Boston Bombing.

    Do you know why?

Because there is no organization promoting pressure cookers that donates to the RNC.

Btw respond to post #3 when you get a chance.

    Doesn't matter if it works.
Kids shall die, so metals can buy guns to shoot up schools. Kids have no constitutional right to live.

Gun cartels? Lol, like someone mentioned above driving cars on heavy populated sidewalks, create bombs or even gas bombs.

What needs to be done is this; No ban on guns will happen, it’s like trying to tell people not to eat sweets anymore, they just can’t do it.

What they need to do is have better security overall, maybe Artificial Intelligence isn’t bad, however, it could be blown out of proportion.

What we should do is have more security, fix the bullying in schools and other toxic behaviors by students which makes kids drive to murder because they feel as if talking to a teacher isn’t going to help (which really doesn’t) actually have armed security in these schools instead of giving teachers weapons.

How about we treat all automobiles as weapons and pass some 'common sense' laws such as banning the sale of any vehicle capable of exceeding 80 mph, requiring a driving retest every 5 years, banning anyone who has been arrested for drug possession or has had mental issues from ever owning a car.
Get Congress to pass laws like that first then we can apply it to firearms.
Don't worry it would never happen no matter how many are killed by speeding cars driven by crazy stoners.

You know, that "defense" was moronic when gunners first trotted it out years ago, and it's still moronic today.
Guns are designed for one purpose and one purpose only....TO KILL.
Cars are designed for transportation...and have a myriad of laws and regulations to try and prevent or limit deadly potential ACCIDENTS.
You drive drunk or break the speed limit, you can get arrested, lose your car, etc., etc. No one has a problem with adding to the laws and enhancing safety features.
    But
A guy buys a gun that makes it easier to shoot up a school, and paranoid yahoos & NRA flunkies all wail not to ban that weapon.
    The mind boggles.

Make owners responsible for thief guns

Secure them when not in use

    Take steps to prevent theft

    Report stolen guns to police

Simple solutions to complex problems are usually wrong. The use of guns for mass murder is too complex of a problem to be solved with one simple solution because there is no one simple cause. I is also not practical or not Constitutional to use certain solutions. Example the "simple" solution of confiscating all weapons from civilians would be firstboff unconstitutional, secondly impractical, and thirdly provoke a rebellion.

Why does it matter more that it was done in a school and not in a parking lot, or a crowded street, or a ghetto?

Australian law does not allow “defence” as an acceptable reason for owning a gun

Agreed it HAS to be multifaceted but maybe it can also be step by step

Step one and I have to go with the American Association of Paediatricians here

    Mandate securement of firearms
