Ric Ocasek, frontman for The Cars, has died, a spokesman for the New York Police Department has confirmed. He was 75.

In 2018, model Paulina Porizkova, whom Ocasek wed in 1989, revealed that the couple had been “peacefully separated for the past year.” The news came shortly after The Cars were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

This one hurts a lot more than Eddie Money (to me anyway). The Cars were easily my favorite band in HS (78-81) and some of college.... Had all their albums, on the old vinyl... May still be a couple in the basement....

My friend and I used to discuss which rocker was uglier, Ric or Tom Petty.... I still think I won with Tom, but now they can jam together....

Winner or loser in that contest, how did this guy score a supermodel?? It couldn't be that he was a musician, could it?

Anybody (everybody?) remember Phoebe getting out of that pool to "Moving in Stereo"??

How about when Ric was a bee (I think) in one of his videos?

RIP Ric... Let the Good Times Roll in Heaven!!

Dang! very sad to hear this. I grew up with Music from the Cars and a lot of other musicians who've died lately. This is one of the unfortunate things about growing older is that people you admire, became friends with and loved begin passing away. Gods Speed Ric and thank you for all those great songs you and Benjamin Orr sang.

    Yeah. The Cars were cool.

And, obviously, the scene of Phoebe releasing the twins has become iconic.

    RIP.

P.S. Dying at 75 sure beats the heck out of joining Club 27.

I was never a huge fan, but I had their eponymous album and enjoyed it enough not to throw it out.

Even though Ric didn't sing it, Drive is one of my favorite songs of all time. Thank God he wrote that fantastic song.

Pretty song... not sure what my favorite Cars song is.... Probably goes back and forth between Dangerous Type and All Mixed Up, a song few remember but finishes off the great Side 2 of their debut album..

Least favorite "famous" Cars song?? "You might Think".... Just a little too pop for me....

Lots of good memories of riding around with my Dad, the Cars jamming on the radio, me trying to drum out the beat on the truck's dashboard. Let the good times roll.

Great producer too who was responsible for Weezer's early albums.

Wasn't aware of that... but somehow makes sense.

Weezer has been great from the get-go.

You really need to just put Side 2 of Album 1 on and sit back and enjoy... no duds there....

My Fave Song First, then BBL, then MIS rekindling memories of Phoebe releasing the Twins in Fast Times, and then AMU to end things.
