I would be interested to hear how much you saved on yer
latest vacation.Because savings is the new passion among
seniors.Well not new.But kinda Old New.
Not Mae West Old but more like Raquel Welch old.

 

As a means to both save money and have fun, my relatives and I rented a house on the beach. We have 12 people here are one time with five bedrooms and two baths. Cost; $700 each couple for a week. The beaches on Emerald Isle are gorgeous; I'm used to some trash, seaweed and boats, but this one had none. Beautiful.

Being able to buy food (and booze) as a group and cook in a kitchen also saved money

There is a Problem with SO many in one house at the same time.
Hot water.No matter how big the water heater,only 2 or 3 could
take a shower in the space of a half hour.

 

I prefer to think of it as smart... not old. Beachfront hotel is $79 nt from Sun-Thurs until Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Thus my trips are mid May & early Sept. (Weekend & on season rates $129-$169). I can stay 5 days for what my gf paid for 2 days at a fancy resort down the street... and dont have to wear that tacky wristband.

 

In my vast vacation experience, it's all about avoiding the crowds.

My favorite vacation spot is Isle Royale. Go after Labor Day.

Another favorite is is Smoky Mountains. If you can stand the traffic, go over Independence Day weekend. Every parking lot will be jammed, but go one mile down any trail and it will be deserted.

 

Most of us spent so much time in the ocean and the outdoor freshwater rinse, we only showered every other day.

 

Agreed. It also reduces prices. After school lets out, the price of our rental doubles. Those who can go off-season, should. School is a problem for parents, but a little planning and they might be able to let the kids miss a few days.

As much as you may dislike what someone has to say, or they dislike what you say, you still have the right to say it.

Those with the emotional stability of a 5 year old, will try and yell you down, regardless of political lean. Some people will cave. Others who know their rights and really don't give a damn if people like what is said, don't. There is a time to apply common sense (what some call a filter) and people in general seem to be missing that little item in recent years.

 

But how is that man in the moon hanging on at that speed?

 

Only thing worse than vacationing with a bunch of school age kids is relaxing in a pool with a bunch of preschoolers. My friends know my pet peeve is noisy toddlers and it's amazing how I attract the lil screaming creatures. Even at a 5 star restaurant where my bill was over $80, two tables over, they seated a family with 2 precious noisemakers... which got a giggle from my gfs. Never fails. "Waiter... instead of that glass of chardonnay, bring me a whole bottle."

For dinner/breakfast at 0840AM after another graveyard shift --

- boiled lobster and crab legs (I could not resist any longer).

- pinot grigio white wine.

Last night a 15 year old run-away girl came up to my post and turned herself in.

I called police immediately per her request.

Almost right away 4 police cruisers zoomed up and took custody of her.

Apparently they had been looking for her all night long.

This is the first time I have actually helped anybody on my watch.

All the other times I have either been arresting them, kicking them off the property, or yelling at them. What a rush.

 

That a Girl.Any schnook can take a vacation.But to make the most
of a vacation and save a measurable amount of moola is the key.
Makes all the difference in the world.Like Grocery shopping.

 

Good morning earthlings... u2 Foolie. Gonna be another hot one, but Ive got a whole 3 day weekend and NO plans. Hallelujah! Maybe I can get those swimsuits and beach towels laundered.

 

For breakfast at 6 a.m. after 18 hours sleeping on my days off --

- French toast made with cinnamon raisin bread

- fresh milk.

 

Today is my Sunday. Yesterday was my Saturday and I slept during most of it, got up to go have tempura and sushi at the local Japanese sushi bar in the evening, then went back to bed.

Now I am up early having converted back to early-bird days for today and tomorrow only.

Tomorrow is my Monday and for me it starts with a late swing shift from 6 pm to 2 a.m.

From then on I will switch to nights, as usual for Friday (which is my Monday) through Tuesday (which is my Friday).
