I was trying to find the album you are talking about. I read that John Entwistle made those album cover jackets on Slip Kid and By Numbers. The Who By Numbers cover jacket artwork was inspired by his sons connect the dots coloring book. I had no idea. Very cool to learn that.

By any chance is this the album you are talking about?

Most of the very new music is very forgettable.

"A steep drop-off in recognition was seen for hits produced between the years 2015 and 2000, and a more gradual decline for songs of the 1950s and 1940s. However, songs from the 1960s to 1990s generated a ‘stable plateau’ of music recognition. Unexpectedly a strong correlation was seen between the likelihood of recognising a song and its play count on Spotify. ‘Spotify was launched in 2008, well after nearly 90% of the songs we studied were released, which indicates millennials are aware of the music that, in general, preceded their lives and are nonetheless choosing to listen to it,’ said Dr Wallisch."
METRO, Millennials prefer music from 20th century ‘golden age’ to the pop of today, research suggests, By Jasper Hamill, 7 Feb 2019.

I like most 50s hits, and the more I listen to 30s and 40s jazz and swing the more I like it.

Well sometimes a one hit wonder is all you need, you can coast the rest of the way. I heard a dee jay say once that the BeeGees could record the phone book and it would be a hit. I think he was right. I love the BeeGees. Speaking of..

Late sixties through the 70s does seem very distinctive to me. The early 60s sound, with a few exceptions, is rather like the 50s with a Beatles haircut.
Which is not to say that the best of it is not good.

I ran across mention of 50's r&b stuff that so reminded me of an older cousin who loved that genre. Topsy, Raunchy, and who could forget Fat Fannie and Bony Maronie. Good stuff.

Was a regular to TCM and also AMC for decades. They have
become passe. It started when AMC broke their pledge to run
    commercial free movies.
Plus the guys who critiqued movies were tops back in the
    80's,90's and into the 2000's.
    Now ya got creeps like Ben Mankiewicz { Member of The Young Turks }
who basically took over for Robert Osborne.
Robert used guests to highlight interest in special feature movies
as in Star of the Month.I didn't care much for Sally Field. But eventually
enjoyed Drew Barrymore.Rose McGowan was out of her element.
She was and will remain a Star wannabe.Carrie Fisher was also
out of her element.Really a one movie actress.
Alec Baldwin just sucks all around.
