Yes. It adds more of a char flavor, and faster, than just pepper. It also has an interesting smell when mixed and grilled with italian dressing. Since I love my steaks rare/medium rare, the coffee season on the steak makes it much easier to grill.

Tastes a lot better than one would think

Coffee might be good, but my steaks are always seasoned with salt and pepper only. Just the way I like em.

Looks like we are dropping in on my daughter in Washington so it will be I -5 to the 90. Not the most direct path but there is a grandson there and we haven’t met yet.

I have a prob I need to air out, so y'all are my sounding board. Political differences come into play, so Im stretching the bar's rules a bit, but not much.

Heres the deal... my lib/Dem friend Susie invited me on a five day trip to the beach in a 5 star hotel where wed share a room. .. with another lib/Dem gf of hers. Susie will pay my share of the room because Ive paid for several trips for her.

So, Ive been upgrading my beach attire and making grooming appts, etc., so I dont look like a beach bum like I usually do. Gotta admit, not looking as forward to this trip as my usual routine, but gfs are important and gonna do this.

So a couple of days ago on FB, another gf posted a funny comparing Biden & Clintons sexual misdeeds and Susie jumps in with TRUMP IS MORE DISGUSTING, HES HAD 12 WOMEN!

I rarely discuss politics on FB because friends & family post socially and I dont want to offend anyone... that's what this place is for. :dual:

I told Susie shes watching too much CNN/The View and she should stick to posting about her cats, and she blew up. Said I insulted her and she'll watch what she wants and added she thinks for herself. (koff). Said BTW she thinks I spend too much time on political forums and should stop it.

I tried to lighten it up by saying I was sorry and didnt nean to hurt her that I was merely defending the president. Told her Id buy her first cocktail on the beach to make it up to her.

She didnt reply but went on to post some nasty stuff about Trump from ABC and hasnt spoken to me since.

The big trip is 2 weeks off and the last thing I wanna do is be stuck 300 miles from home, in her new Cadillac, in a room shes paying for. 30 yr friendship or not.

I think Ive made my decision, but would like to hear how y'all would handle this situation with a friend of opposite political beliefs. (Other than the obvious advice... avoid discussing politics in the first place). ;)

I would just have fun with it. Of course.....I like a good argument. If I get stuck I would just become mildly sarcastic.

Im quick to laff off political differences of opinion in r/l too, but this gal takes it personally. Guess I also feel like shes trying to drag me kicking & screaming into a ritzy-er environment than I care for. Part of me thinks this tiff was right on time to give me a reason to back out. ;)

    Er...

Is it out of line to ask for pictures?

Seriously, I would say to suck it up. Try to maintain the freindship. That there is a lot of history between you two has value. Try to gently ask her if she is wanting to give up that history over a difference of opinion.

Thx for your take. We've weathered these kind of conflicts before so Im sure the friendship will survive. Just have to figure out a diplomatic way of telling her Im staying in another hotel, but hope to get together with them for meals sometime like we've done in the past when staying at different places. ;)

The antelope valley is going through one of the 7 plagues of Egypt but with butterflies. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like an Alfred Hitchcock flick.

Sometimes politics and friendships are a bit risky. If she takes it to the level of abusive she is the one with the problem. I would first try to talk to her and explain that friendships are hard to come by and 30 years is too many years to throw away over politics, if she doesn't respond and say she understands might be time to say the big BYE, BYE. Maybe a suggestion of no political talk of any kind while on vacation. One thing is for sure and certain you will know her better.

We went to Texas for a brief time and it was rainy. I did get to see a few bluebonnets and got to see Sam Houston's statue.
No Magnolia Table they were full when we got there, no Chip and Jojo.

Here’s how this moderately liberal guy (who doesn’t watch CNN, FWIW) would handle the situation.

Go to mountains instead. What’s the big deal about beaches anyway? It took us billions of years to evolve to the point where we could crawl out of the sea.

    Why go back?

My sister and brother-in-law spend their winters in Naples, FL. We visited them about 10 years ago and after one day of golf, one day of exploring the Everglades, and one day at the beach I was ready to come home to Colorado.

    Guess I'm a mountain man (although I don't have a beard).

Dont get me wrong... I've had some fun times in Colorado. Once spent a wild week in a condo in Breckenridge with 7 crazy people. Amazing how drunk one can get at high altitudes. Still have the sweatshirt:

BRECKENRIDGE: HARD DRUGS, SOFT SNOW, CASUAL SEX

Altitude sickness happened during a conference in Vail. Only good part of that trip was meeting Gerald Ford. :)

    Susie sounds sensitive.
You're Texas Teasing her and didnt even call her Dumplin' and she gets insulted. You say your sorry and she still cant let it go and is still is stewing.

I think you should tell her no offense but you decided you are staying at the other place. They sent you a brochure with their seasonal rates. If you register at the desk with a MAGA baseball cap on, you get a 50% discount. If you register at the desk wearing a MAGA baseball cap and a Lock 'er Up tshirt, its a 75% discount for the next 6 years. Tell her you hope she understands.

Well ....I been working on the front porch. I had some glass from the old house and built some windows. The glass on some of it seemed to have a light haze in the glass so I bought some spray paint to frost the windows. This cuts down on some of the light coming in and all the glass matches. It don't look bad but a lack of planning had me put a wall in out of square. The windows are in so it stays. Also started playing with stained glass. Gonna ....maybe...put the pains in to catch the afternoon sun. It is my first attempt but the glass itself is pretty but I need to build a frame to keep it together. ..yea and use a double glaze...clear glass on the outside and colored glass on the inside. Need to take my tape and see if we have any glass we can use without too much trouble. ...got some good looking plate glass out there. Also....still thinking about the screen. Want it to be tight.

Also ....gonna build a screen door . After putting in the glass I have 76 inches of height for a screen door. Now the ones at Home Depot are 80 inches tall and lack the meat to be cut off. ...so...I gotta build one. Gonna use one by heart pine and biscuit joinery. Caint be too much worse than the stuff thet sell and it might work out. Got hinges too.
