For some reason, that doesn't bother me. What does bother me, is the fencepost heights. They're all the same couple of inches taller than the fence, except the one by the Camelia (on the left).

Cut the other two flush. No?

That rhododendron wouldnt look bad cut back to the post. Like the Camelia. Then move those bigger stone over to tie in to the post like on the other side. The center would be framed by the two shubs.
    Just a suggestion.

I'm late to the party, sorry, but do you mean lavender, as in the plant? If yes, they like extremely well draining soil... and definitely not as moist as the rhodi's like. Perhaps, pot up the lavender in a really nice ceramic pot, and place artistically in the garden. From HGTV:
    • Give the plants 6 hours or more of full sun each day.
    • Apply very little water. Most people overwater.
    • Grow in well-drained areas or raised beds. If you have heavy or clay soil, grow lavender in pots.
    • If your soil is sandy, mix in some gravel to improve drainage.
    • Make sure you have good air flow around the plants if you have high humidity.

Put a decorative bird house on the higher fenceposts, like it was meant to be there.

Yep, cutting back the rhody is on the list. Good call!

"Then move those bigger stone over to tie in to the post like on the other side. The center would be framed by the two shubs."

I'm not picturing what you mean. What "bigger stone"? In what way would one post be tied in like which other one? What center would be framed by what two shrubs.

    Thanks!

On the left hand side of the rhody there are several small branches that could be trimmed back to the create a loose rounded effect. You could cut them back to the post behind the over grown left side. That would give you some symmetry.
The stone bed on the Camelia side looks like it lands against the first 3 pickets in the inside of that post. If you start the course of larger stone or any stone on the inside 3 picket area on the rhody side it would look balanced to the eye. The center bed would then be centered and tie into the Camelia and rhody.

Oh. I get what you're saying. Maybe you're right. Thanks for the suggestion! What I'm doing has been in my head for fifteen years. It might not be correct, but...

There is no right and wrong. Whatever you think looks good is what it is and that's perfect.
You're doing an impressive job. Its cool you got right into it after you retired.
My money's still on that part time job by October 15 so maybe you could hurry up with the landscaping and get bored or something. lol

    Haaahahahahaaa! Sucker!

If I don't get a DOT physical by Oct. 21st., my CDL will be invalid. I thought that I would keep the license current, but now, I don't think so.

That area does drain extremely well... you can ask the guy on the other side of the fence. His yard is 5 1/2 or 6 feet lower than mine. I ran the hose for 25 minutes and his backyard got squishy. He has a drain there and I saw the water running down his street.

The rhododendron has been there forever. It should be OK.

    Howdy, TC.

To add to CD's points, some Lavenders may grow better in your area than others:

We grow the so-called English Lavender here in Virginia because it's hardier than the French and Spanish varieties. Munstead and Hidcote are the two most commonly found English Lavenders.

If I decide to put a little gift shop in the bar, I'm ordering a truckload of these.

I use sweet baby ray’s original. Ive tried making my own a few times and it isn’t bad but Ray’s is tough to beat. Especially if you slather the rack then throw it on a hot grill to candy it a little.

Best pork BBQ sauce I've ever had (good on BBQ chicken, too), but if you're into the thick sweet stuff it might not be right for you. I use it as a marinade and I'll brush it on the meat while it's grilling.

Lavender is a thing out here. One of the 'burgs has a big-time festival over the stuff. I've never been to it, but it sure brings traffic to a crawl.

Been so hot. Over 100 today. Stayed mostly in the shade and built a curio shelf out of a standing shelf I replaced with a hand made cabinet. The bottom is old siding repurposed and covered with 1/4 inch old plywood. With 2 doors that close in the middle. The top is a shelf made of old wood siding with wire doors and sides.... keeps the plants in and the cats out. Anyway the curio shelf is made of standard spruce pine and held together with dowels and glue. What I do is cut the pieces.... glue together the pieces.... drill 1/8 pilot hole.... and use T 25 screws to hold it together. When the glue is dry I back out the screws.... drill a 1/4 inch hole ..... and replace with 1/4 dowel rods. Then sand because you do not want the dowels to bottom out in the hole.... leave room to expand or it will push apart.

I don't know.I gotta tell ya it looks like old motor oil that picked
up rust.Plus the container almost confirms that accessment.
It must be kinda runny also.Thick BarBQ sauce is in a jar because
    it doesn't pour slow.
