We are still having a Michael charge on our power bills the co-op didn't get enough FEMA money to cover all the costs. That has been going on now for about 2 years or so. I don't even know if it is tax deductible..it should be. It isn't much but 23.00 or 24.00 a month adds up over time.

Here is an interesting little article about the hognose snake. https://reptileworldfacts.com/2019/01/eastern-hognose-snake If you ever see one it will scare the wits out of you because they do act like a cobra. Amazing what reptiles and animals do to stay safe and alive. The one I came into contact with scared me and I was sure it had to be related to a cobra.

Caught this bull shark on the pictured handline the other day. 50 pound line with a 60 pound steel leader, live tilapia for bait. Good eating. IMG_20210301_184820.jpg

But they surely must be a real chore to filet.Which may not be worth
the time and effort. My Grandfather as I explained was a very good hunter
and fisherman. But he also was prudent.Fishing off the small pier down the
beach from our summer home { On Lake Erie } he used 3 or 4 poles.
one afternoon.Stayed out all afternoon fishing.Ended up with quite a few
sheephead.Which are not eating fish.Lake Perch are the thing.
So he explained why he kept them sheephead. He ground them up for use as
    fertilizer.
Thar ya go.Waste not ... Want not.
Now what I want to know is where did Miss Smarty disappear to.
Do I need to go back and read her last posts to find out.

Michael was a huge mess in our area we are still repairing from. Will take a few more years at least. All the big stuff has long since been done, but there are still a lot of storm drain damage and washouts that need to be tackled as they can get to them. There is this one house I am glad I am not the owner of backing up to a cliff that Michael took out most of its back yard and each big storm since then takes out a little more. I am waiting to hear one day it has crashed down the cliff onto the road below. Hopefully they demo the thing and the owners get some money out of it before then.

We couldn't even get our worthless governor to declare a disaster/emergency out here.

Guess what our surcharge will be named:

Maybe if she wiggles her nose FEMA will loosen up its purse strings. ;-)

White and firm, with the taste and texture somewhere between pork and shrimp. Not flaky, fishy or oily at all. The roe of all species however, is very toxic to consume. There are some monsters in that river. Caught close to where I 75 crosses the Peace river in SW Fl. Inside of Charlotte Harbor.

I never knew they were good eating, either. I've seen some that were about 6' long while I've been fishing in the James River (Virginia).

Here in Fl, sheepshead are a saltwater species, considered fine table fare.

The gar are a chore. You need at least tin snips to cut them open. However, once that is done the rest is easy. They have what amounts to backstraps, boneless and clean meat. I got probably 5 pounds of boneless meat on that fish. I had left my .22 pellet gun at home, which I usually use to dispatch large, possibly dangerous fish. So I caved it's skull in with a small jack handle. It was still flopping around some time later.

I'd heard it all my life until the day I tried some after hearing the opposite. I would imagine the largest of them may not be as good as the relatively smaller ones. Mine was maybe 3 ft 20 lbs? I like fishing with handlines AKA "Cuban yo yo reel" I horsed it and that shark up a couple ft on a dock, no problem. I dont work till 10 pm and just woke up, I'm tempted to head to the creek to cast net some live bait and go fishing now. It's a 17 mile drive so not to bad but alas, I must get other things done around here. Another day.

That's 5 acres of undeveloped land for sale. For now, you can fish there. There is a dirt road and no signs or fences and no one says anything. A shame so much trash is dumped there. That's what gets places shut down.

I wouldn't be surprised if the big ones are less tasty. I've heard the same thing about the striped bass in our parts.

Beautiful fishing spot you've got there.

Since I don't live near the coast I confine myself to freshwater fishing, One of my favorite spots, which has some of the best smallmouth bass fishing on the planet, is on the Falls of the James just below the Manchester Bridge in Richmond, VA. That's where I've seen those big gar:

    02-manchester-bridge-richmond-va1.jpg

It's also where I saw the biggest water moccasin in my life.
